Robot Fightin' Time

Hey everyone, my name is Alex Groves and this is my build/intro thread. The car started out as a base model '95 240SX that was in dire need of resurrection. I started out just tearing the car down to a clean slate, with no real end in sight and it has grown into a pretty solid little car. Anyways, on to the build.

Here it is the day I picked it up. Pretty haggard and very molested.

Started stripping it down, as is customary.

..brought the car home and continued.

I chopped out everything I didn't want, trailered the car to Austin, and had Russell Walker build me a cage. He also cut the knuckles and welded the diff.

..on the way home.

Got the car back home and began tearing down and restoring the suspension.

I sand-blasted, primed and painted everything.

..made the diff look good and started assembling the subframe (in my unfinished dining room lol)

Also, I picked up an S15 SR from a local guy. Pulled some stuff off and proceeded the cleaning process. I blasted the intake manifold and a bunch of other random bits. All new gaskets, front and rear seals, water pump, thermostat, oil pickup, and rockerarm-stoppers.

I also pulled the blower housing off the turbo and blasted it, added a tubular manifold, elbow and downpipe. Wrapped them.

Here's the finished product. Frickin' beautiful. I also powder-coated the valve cover Harley Davidson engine textured black.

Started prepping the car for interior paint and suspension bits to go on.

..subframe complete.

Everything piled up and ready to be installed.

Here's a quick rundown on my suspension set-up.
Fortune Auto 500 Series Coilovers (Thanks to Billy at Import Image)
Energy Suspension Poly Bushings everywhere.
All SPL arms, tie-rods, diff and subframe bushings. (Thank to a hook-up from McRussellPants)
All new brakes; rotors, calipers, pads, stainless hoses, wheel hubs, stabilizer links, and ball joints.
Basically I replaced everything possible.

My buddy gifted me a Nardi wheel and I picked up some knock-off Bride Seats, because I lack consistent part-buying logic lol.

..made some mounts.

Got a wild hair and decided I wanted to paint the car, may or may not have been a mistake. Whatever, it's a drift car.

I picked up a 5speed trans, Spec 6-puck, plugs, and Circuit Sports quick-release.

..made myself a trans mount.

And finally the engine goes in.

Suede wrapped the dash.

Mounted the radiator and shroud and made my intake.

Then I got to work on my intercooler setup.

I pulled everything back out and welded in some tubes for the struts.

Everything back in.

...but i still needed to sort out my BOV and IACV on the cold pipe. Messed around and it came together like this.

Pieced together some angle iron and threaded rod for my battery mount.

Sir Carbomb hooked me up with some Dang Drifters bash bars.

I realize these pics are getting really random, but bear with me it all comes together.

Decided to slash cut my ISIS exhaust.

..pretty happy with the results.

Picked up an ARC 8000 switch panel, a Wiring Specialties engine harness, and all new Auto Meter Phantom gauges then began the daunting task of wiring the chassis.

After many hours I had it wired enough to start the car. *Video*

Headlights wired.

Taillights wired.

Then drove it for the first time and fueled it up.

I picked up some G-Force harness, roll bar padding and was finished with the interior.

Windshield goes in.

Then I loaded the car up and took it for an alignment.

Starting to look like a driftable car.

Put some aero on.

..and a hood vent.

Then I registered for the first round of the Lone Star Drift Series and proceeded to shred.

I made a quick little in-car edit from one of my practice runs.

I like what you've done so far with this build...

I still don't get how people put together car bits in their house though

I drove at Texas Motor Speedway for round 2 of the Lone Star Drift series on this past Sunday. I qualified 13th and after a one-more-time tandem battle with an advantage, my transmission took a shit on me, forfeiting the win and placing me in 13th for the day. Hope to make it into top 8 at round 3, we'll see.
I'll be posting action shots as they come. I also added Lexan side windows and am still working on the rear window, so pics of that to come. Enjoy!

I forgot all about this. Dunno if anyone gives a shit but I'll fill you in on how the rest of last season went for me, what's going on with my car, and what's happening this coming season.

Onward.

So I left off at Round 2. Round 3 was a decent little event. Qualified 9th, didn't make it past top 16 as per my usual.
Here's my qualifying lap.

https://vimeo.com/68167103

Pics.

Then it rained

The next weekend I did a little free demo type thing with Mike Pollard and Drifters Ed at Gulf Greyhound. I had a blast and gave upwards of 20-30 ride-alongs.

Round 4, The Mexican Standoff came along at Mineral Wells and that's where the season really took off. Made top 8. Masashi Yokoi came out and played. Got to tandem with Rob Primo, Pat Goodin, Nate Hamilton and a bunch of other people. It was pretty much awesome.

Myself and our series points champ, Tim Koennig (sp?)

Crappy screen grab of Pat and I

Also at this event, I was a part of Team Shit Show and we won the team tandem comp. This was a blast. I'm the 5th car, the one who hits the barrel

Then came Lone Star Bash, which was by far the best event of the entire season. There was much of if any media out there that I know of, so there aren't many pics that I've seen, but I did take a GoPro with me and put together this little video. Enjoy.

http://vimeo.com/75906165

I can't figure out how to embed these videos, so if anyone knows how and wants to, please embed these. Thanks!

Now onto what I've been up to lately. I pulled the SR out of my car and sold it to my dude Chris (abe2branscome) and we're currently building his car to run the series with this year. I had plans to put a V8 in my car, but life happened and now I have to play grown-up for a little while and then I'll be back to wasting money on my hobby.

Here's Chris' car.

Two-tone coupe. S15 SR. PBM Coils, bunch of SPL shit and my old knuckles. We're currently in the process of caging the car and all that jazz. Here's a few pics.

Typical stuff, you've all seen before

The turbo went bad on my engine because I'm a dummy and I shut it down after running it hard too often (evidence supporting my desire for a V8). So Chris bought this GT2871R and I went about installing it.

New studs and whatnot, bettering things up.

OLD

NEW

Although the V8 hasn't happened in my car yet, I have however acquired a few other parts.

DMAX fenders

I picked up some drop spindles from zilvia's favorite person ever, Matt Powers. Off of his pirate car I think. I dunno whatever.

Era1 fronts and Driftworks rear. Blasted and painted them.

It lowered to front something fierce haha

Thats it for now, more to come as we continue building Chris' car and drive it at Round 1 here in like 20 days.
