when I heard "ratchet" the first time, I pictured something totally different. O to be 27 and feel SOOO SOOO old.

Ps home owners tend to be hurt if you insult their homes. They are old enough to have no desire to look like 3rd world mud huts though, so the POV is a little different.

That was my point. comparing to doing anything to the house is completely different as people who own homes are by in large invested into them and care what they look like. If anything trying to look like they have too much money is usually the direction people go with when doing their home.

Save for your Section8 homes and government shit boxes, but those are mostly run down to lack of care, not going out and painting it 11 different colors and making the garage door go up on a 45 degree angle because you wannabe "different". If we don't mow the yard it looks "shitty" or "ratchet" IMO, and to my knowledge that isn't a modeling style that they offer at home depot to build your house around.

even the 40ft container converted houses that are very modern go as far as they can to make them not look like a big corrugated metal shell. To try to not look like industrial scrap and waste.

I could get it "attempting to look run down", but to be proud and boast about it actually being run down POS that may or may not get you to burger king for work each day is something that I don't think much relates to home ownership.

I could understand if my car was being called shit on a regular basis it might upset me, but when that is what you were trying for, why are you upset? Aren't you in agreeing with them that your pile is a pile? It isn't even the same as the kids who follow the F&F trends and slap a bunch of shit on their cars w/o knowing what they do, they are actively trying to make their car look bad. these people they are upset with are saying they are doing a great job at their goal of making it look like shit. If you didn't want that kind of attention, then maybe "shit" wasn't the direction you should have gone in.....
