Gram Lights17x9's front and back 12+ if i remember. Hoosier R6's But i am designing some special 10 and 10.5 carbon wheels for next season to test out. Should be interesting. My car here was in the middle of a wide body design session when i had to slap the old stuff back on to do Cali Speedway Redline Time Attack a few weeks back.

Last couple of setups have been rad. I thought about 255/40 NT01s on 17x10 RPF1s myself, but decided to spend the money elsewhere and stay on street tires. I have nothing new to post here, and 245/40 on 17x9 is hardly "maximum", but I'll throw a pic up once I get the ride height sorted.

OK so here is what I have so far, I will post more pics when I get the project DONE.

95 S14

KYB AGX, with 1.75" drop sport line springs (90% sure that's the drop on the spring)

Rota P45R 18x9.5 20+ Stock fenders will clear with a roll/pull

Nankang NS 2 (I know, cheap tires. but they are just going to burn off with the LS1 anyway)

Front 265/35/18 They clear everything just fine in turning

Rear 285/30/18

and three more for the rest of the project

OK guys, one question from myself, why youre throwing big tires (> 265') on your cars ? (No negative statement).

The Garage Saurus S14, which laped Tsukuba in 57 seconds flat have 17x9 with 245/40 in front and 17x10 with 255/40 in the rear !.

The tires are A048 from Advan, ok these are semis but i still think it gives you something to think...

Which none-semi-tire width will be comparable regarding traction of the stated above A048 sizes ?

The easist answer is "because I want to". The longer winded response is that I want a tire that is going to last me more than a few track days and survive a full 30 minute session without having to back off in 90F+ weather. I can nearly do that with 275/40 RA-1 and the tires don't show that much wear to other tires I've ran in smaller sizes.

I can point out other cars that have been fast with different setups... doesn't mean any one of these is the right setup, just different ways of doing the same thing, going fast.

Not sure what you mean by "semis" and "non-semis", but these tires come as a street tire on the Exige here in the states (I have a set in the garage) and are probably close to an RE-01R tire I'd assume. They are expensive though, probably why most people don't run them over here.

Looks rad as fuck and can handle more punishment that smaller tires without overheating. A wider tire also gives the car more available grip than a narrower tire which is theoretically faster.

Who is to say that that car couldn't have gone faster with more rubber underneath it? The japanese are not the tuning and racing gods that the JDM craze would have you believe. Europeans and americans DOMINATE any form of international racing and have done so for pretty much the entire history of racing. That is not to say that there are no fast japanese cars and drivers. Do not base your set-ups and opinions on what some company in japan did, it can be done better 99.9% of the time.

AO48's are good tires, but stupidly overpriced. For the same amount of money as a set of the yokos you could have a set of hoosiers, which are un-deniably stickier

I'll look through my GRM collection tomorrow and scan this article if I can find it. They test an RX8 with square tires, buldged tires, and retarded buldged tires - if I remember right they found the wider the tires got times kept dropping, even though there was a great lack of feel.

Pictures for fun:
I don't have all the details other than 285/35/18 all around. Doesn't really matter since I doubt many people are looking for M3 crap here.

Is this Thread about racing legacy or fitting awesomely humongoid rubber on your S-Chassis?

Let's get back to the Topic.

I'm sure that "lack of feel" could be almost completely eliminated with properly sized wheels for the humungous tires. That bimmer is sick as fuck btw! I LOVE it!

Yep, this was just a test for the debate over fitting stupid huge tires on narrower wheels.

I have been running 9's front and rear for 2 years now in time attack. And as hard as i throw the car into corners (with slicks mind you), i still need more traction coming out of the corners. I can go into a corner faster and accelerate earlier coming out. So i am going to Enkei 18x10.5's rear, and 18x9.5's front. You throw more lateral load at the car, it needs more grip.
I'm having to make custom fenders for these bad boys. And if your not making any lateral load, your not shaving time.

The fronts are 275/35 and the rear are 315/30. Hoosier R6's. I borrowed these for a test fitting for the front and rear fenders.

Kind of a long shot but I was wondering if anyone ran a 245/35/17 on 17X9s all around on a S14. I can't find any side shots of what this looks like anywhere at all.

That is too short, it would look stupid. If they were 18's it would look fine, but for 17's, just weird looking. What tires come in 245/35/17 anyways? That is a weird size.

I wasn't aware they made a 35 series sidewall in a 275 width? unless that is a mistake

I want something like Sasha's setup next with some used R comps. I got this current setup because it was cheap and a sure thing as far as fitment goes.

245/40-17 is a more common size. Closest to stock diameter.

^^^What kind of suspension you got on there? Do you have to use any kind of spacer to get the front to fit?

To keep this on track, here a pic of my car in motion. Sorry no pic of her sitting still.

Stock ride height daily. Definitely rubs. I am actually more into drifting so this is totally the wrong tire size. But you cant argue the grip.
