Get the Injen Intake (short ram, without the CAI) and buy one of these:

Rather than having the regular intake with CAE, i'll have the short ram with a "ram air" headlight cover just for a different style. I think it'd work pretty great. Any feedback?

i've seen it, but only once or twice. sounds like a good idea to me. isn't the ram air effect part of the reason you S13 guys do the whole "sleepy eye" thing?

Yah i think so, but i'd never do the sleepy eyes... i think it looks stupid. I really like this idea though, i think i'll do it!

Why does everyone call this a "ram" type intake? I thought the "ram" intake was more the GM Firebird style. (Which is, IMHO a pretty ugly car.) I don't see how any air is being "rammed" into our engines by these so-called "ram" intakes.

That said, It sounds like a good enough idea-- I just think those headlight covers look fugly though. The sleepy-eye (or lazy-eye) look just appeals more to me. It's "cleaner" if it can be described as that.

ah, blink0r, you beat me to it. I also had this idea but didn't want to mention it (no really, I did). I was hoping to do it in about a month when I'm finally done with school and then I was gonna start a thread on it to explain pros/cons. But it's all good. I was thinking that it would probably be as beneficial as getting the extension, seeing that the C'West lid allows air to flow directly to the intake. Let me know how it goes for you though.

Of course this method wont get as much "Cold Air" but IMHO its more effective, and it will be ALOT cleaner on the engine.

It won't actually "Ram" air into anything.  Ram air works on the same principle as a turbo or supercharger.  The faster you go the more dense the air becomes in front of the car.  If your intake is situated to have that dense charge shoved or "Ramed" into it, then you will see a gain in HP.  

Having the Ram air headlight cover will only serve to allow some cooler air into the engine bay around that part of the engine.  The CAE actually would receive MUCH more cold air because of it being situated behind the vent in the bumper and away from the engine entirely.

A better way to get cool air over the engine would be to get a Vented hood that has a raised edge on the front.  Behind the lip of the Vent a Low pressure zone is created where air gets sucked out of the engine bay.  pulling cold air from under the car (or from the ram air light cover) into the engine bay.  Allowing for a cooler engine.  Plus I think they look cool when done right.

Another little pet peeve (if you can call it that) -- wht are the vents all made in that Y-shape?? I can only imagine that it'd flow less air than a simple bulge.

My only other 'idea' regarding the (ugly looking-IMO) Y-shape inlet would be that it "cools" the air as it goes in since going from high pressure to low pressure (from the bottom of the "Y" to the top where it's wider.)

Anyone feel like enlightening me?

Where is the best place to order that "ram air" headlight cover and what is the best price anyone has seen? Although it is not ram air, it could not hurt by getting more cold air into the area. I also like the look of it.

The only place i've ever seen is enjukuracing.com, and i think it's about $90 US. That's definitely what i'm going for.
