Do you mind if a rant a bit?

I was so close to buying a 92 s13 red SE model this weekend and when I ran the vehicle information report (cost me $15) I found out that it had been written off in 98 (that is the insurer said the damage cost exceeded the cars value)  It was then repaired and inspected to be registered 6 months later.  The guy never told me it was written off, plus he is about the 6th owner total.  I am probably not buying this car anymore until either it gets inspected down to the frame, or it goes through a complete inspection.  (that will be another $200) on the price!  What if it is a piece of crap, .. then I would waste $200 on a car that isn't even mine yet.  I just wish this guy would of told me that it was repaired.  It did pass some 28 point inspection earlier (abount 1 month ago)  But I still think I should still have the frame inspected, just in case it went through some major damage.  This guy that is selling it never knew what the write off was for, so it is lost in lala land I guess.  This disappoints me, but at least I have only spent like 20 dollars on this car that isn't mine, instead of like $6000

You can do something about that.  It is up to the seller to tell you what accidents were on the vehicle.  A friend of mine bought a car before all that carfax stuff came around.  When carfax came out, I checked my '96 Vette, and it passed.  He then checked his '95 Prelude, and it failed miserably.  It too was written off, and the person bought the car back from the insurance people and fixed it.  Then he sold it to my friend.  He sued, and won.
