first of all, where are the stock amplifiers located....
next, if i take a few of them and amp up cheap speakers, will it work? like 2 stock amps to move a pioneer 4X6..... i dont have any money as u can see.... i already have a Jensen amp for the front speakers, and putting in a SUB already.... so if i wanna power the rears a little better without spending another $75-100 for an amp, how can i do that? |

Well.. I dunno what year / trim car you have. On my '96 SE, the stock amps are dangling below the rear deck. If you have them, you'll see them, they are big, silver boxes. I don't think that a 4x6 will fit in my car, as all the speakers were 6.5". Do you already have the 4x6 installed?
Amping up cheap speakers will always work. But they'll blow. It's like a 400hp NOS fogger system on a '73 Pinto. Also, when you amp cheap speakers, you will amplify the cheap sound of the speakers. I really don't remember what ends the stock amps had or if they fit on my Polk 6.5". I left my interior speakers un-amped. Finally, if you wanna power your cheap rear speakers, and don't have stock amps, use the Jensen that is powering the front speakers. The sound quality of powered fronts and not powered rears is poor. The highs hit your ears sooner than the midbass from the rears. Do it visa-versa, and you will get better surround sound quality. -Jeff |

the stock amp is the deck
so when u remove the deck you remove the amp but if u have a aftermarket deck it should be putting out about 30-40 watts that is enought for the rears i have a amp on the fronts and the rears are running off the deck and i can hear them loud and clear over 140db's of bass |

Umm.. the "deck"? The head unit? Anyway, I don't care if you have a 180-watt tuner, claiming 45-watts a channel... You will ONLY put out 17 rms. a 200 watt tuner is worth close to 22 rms.

Even that's not always true. My head unit has a claimed 180 watt max tuner, with 22 watt RMS. For the sake of making sense, only deal in the RMS numbers. Regardless, it's enough power (for me) to hear over wind noise at higher speeds. You also want to look at your speaker sensitivity. More sensitive speakers play louder with less input. As far as the factory amps go in an s13, get rid of them. All they do is take your higher wattage out of a new head unit and turn it into 5 watts for the speakers.

There's a reason for the speaker sensitivity to be lower though. You'll often find higher quality speakers to have a lower sensitivity rating. That's because the lower the sensitivity the less work the speaker is trying to do with a certain amount of power.
