I might be getting a 240z!

As I am finishing up my 240sx/Sr20det project, I have come up apon a 1971 Datsun 240z. It is going to be a project car with my father. I would be buying it off of my friend because he is going into the navy to buy a skyline and marry a 13 year old japaneese girl so he is getting rid of it. Im getting it for 350.00. It needs work. The floor is rusted out completly but he has the new ones so we would have to weld them in. The car runs and it runs well but I was interested in putting a new engine in it. I was wondering the possibilities of different engines for the car. I heard that you can put an Rb26dett in it. I would like to do that. I just want to let my father know what the options are for the car so he can buy all of the parts, hehe. Just wanting to know. Oh if anyone has any good Datsun sites for info, that would be good. thanks.

im going rb20det, but ther eis so many options
l20 6 cyl not 4
l24 stock but build it, you should have round su's and e31 head
l26
l28
l28 turbo
l31 (l28 bottom, l28 deisel crank, ka24e pistons..blah blah)
l31 turbo (same as above just boosted)
ca18det
fj20det
sr20det
rb20det
rb25det
rb26dett
rb30de
rb20de
rb25de
rb30det (rb30 bottom end with rb25det top)
2jzgte
7mgte
4age
vg30dett
ka24de
ka24e
ive seen all of these of course you could put a stupid american v8 in one, but who would do that?
i cant wait to start working on mine again, i had to put floor pans in mine as well, i have a 72 with l24 with rounds and e31, but rb20det will replace it, hoping for around 400whp

and I have to second or third that...
LS1/LT1.. parts are easier to come by
and if for some reason, +300rwtq wont satisfy you, turbo that bioatch.
It will be an awesome learning experience too.
something new to play with instead of being stuck at the inline 4/6 cyl world.

well at least thats what i'm going to do if i have a old skool z's project

rb powaaaa. I want a 240z badly. The first car I learned to drive on was my mom's 1982 280z and I loved it. I like the older model z's better though.

i say go for the v8 swap lt1 ls1 even a carbureted 350 would give you more than enough power you could want..nm you could never have enough power. the v8 is probably one of the easier swaps also..

screw v8, lighter cars benefit from fast revving motors, not to mention the sound of a nive I-6, and plus who wants to spend 5 grand on 310 hp when you can spend 4 grand with an sr-ca-rb20 and have just as much and be lighter and better balanced with great sound/revs/and keepin it nissan

I love the 240z!!! They look badass from the front with the huge mouth. I say got with an RB or SR. Not only are they lighter, but it will keep your weight distro better balanced.

The LS1 is actually a light engine, lighter i believe than the stock 280 motor.

If you think a v8 in there wont get you the power or speed that you want, check out Darius' procharged LT1 http://servinitup.com/videos.shtml Click on third pic for the video.

I've always liked Zs with Small Blocks. My friend and I have been considering taking this engineless, stripped, 280 and dropping in the biggest V8 we can fit in there.

yea thats pimp.
But turbocharge the LS-1 and spend the same amount of $ and you can get the same thing.
Its just that the LS1 will be missing one thing... the dual overhead cams lol

I have seen a 9 second 240z with a ferrari kit body on it. It had a small block chevy in it with a lot of laughing gas. It yanked the wheels wayyyyyyyy off the ground. The guy driver/own was probably in his late 60's.

I like the idea of updating the Datsun/Nissan straight 6 by changing it to an RB. The Z's were pretty heavy compared to a 240sx, I'd be afraid of the SR not having enough off boost torque. And lets face it RB engines just sound soooooo cooooool. Then again so do VQ engines with decent exhaust.

Push rods and spark plug wires suck.

Uhmm no. 240Zs are WAY lighter than 240sxs. On the order of 4-500 pounds lighter. I've seen MANY a modified S30 weighing in at around 2200lbs.
Also, SRs a good NA motors. Even though they're 2 liters, they're not like Honda motors where you have to rev them to infinity to go somewhere. Besides... How often will you be staying out of boost in an SR powered Z?!

u can't say shit like this

its like saying
u want a rb25det go buy a skyline

go check out www.v8rx7.com
there site is pretty cool usualy they do LS1 swaps but, some guy did a maxima motor in a rx7 2nd gen that was nice

to all the people who hate v8s theres nothing wrong with a v8 its prob even cheaper to find aftermarket parts(if your in the US)

and if u think about it witch 1 will last longer? a 400HP v8 or a 400HP i4
i don't know what to say about the i6/v6s they're cool..

same thing with money wise how much do you think it'll cost you to do the HP you want with a lower cyl car, and how much would it cost you to do it with a 8cyl car

well i dunno what the hell i just said but, what im trying to say is, ALL MOTORS ARE OUR FRIENDS, FROM 3 CYL TO WHATEVER 12CYL

and don't even try to say BLAH BLAH BLAH GAS GUZZLER, turbo cars eat gas too
