Broken plastic heater hose connector/valve - THE SOLUTION!!

So many of my 240 buddies (including me) all had broken this piece of plastic the becomes fragile with the time. I tried to look for a replacement part but it wasn't worth the effort, money and time.

So here's my little solution.

Difficulty: easy
Time: 15 minutes
Cost: time
Engine: KA24DE

The white cylinder is a broom handle that I cut. I wrapped it in electrical tape so that it fits snug with the hoses but also to avoid rust to get in the heater system (I suppose the handle was made out of steel).

I know it might seem like an obvious fix for some people, but I still have people asking me how to fix that or where to find this part (dealership duh!) so that why I'm doing this thread.

On one 240, I noticed that the plastic connector was a valve instead connected to the interior of the car by a small rod. I don't know what opens or close the valve and what the purpose. But I did the same fix and the car is running fine.

A barbed male to male fitting would have been much better.

Haha you guys are right. A PVC pipe or something like this would have been better. I only used the broom handle on my 1st 240 because I didn't find anything better at the time (long long long time ago when I was broke and still learning).

Since then I found some plastic links that are the exact same dimension as the broken thingy and that's what I use for doing the fix.

Now I feel pretty much stupid because I don't have picture of the right solution with the right hardware.

You should have felt stupid earlier, like when you came up with the idea of using a broom handle to replace a plastic fitting.
