Are the cars in Hong Kong the same as the ones in Japan?(as in do they get the JDM parts)
Does Hong Kong get every car that Japan does?
Like a Civic Type R?

No offense, I know that too already. I am trying to see if they have Civic Type R, because I am planning about what car parts to get and sell over the summer from over there. And trying to see if they got the JDM parts that all those people are crazy about.

Ok, thanks.
But I don't think I will find any Civic Type R in the junkyards anyways, because I haven't really even seen them on the road, but maybe with all the Lancers and Skylines, I probably missed all the Civics.
One more question, what's worth taking out of a regular JDM Civic for sale?

Hong Kong has most of all the cars in Japan, including the civic type-r, skyline, etc. they also have the parts to go along with it. too bad it's that hard to get them over here.

All the japanese car in HK are grey market car. They are imported from japan ( they are J-spec) However, they are cheaper than those that are sold in offical dealer. Anyways, an example is ... Accord ... in HK they have SIR-t ( j-spec ) and american version.

But I believe all those GTR, WRX and Lancer are jspec.

Or you can just ask me... since I'm in HK right now. I'm only willing to bring back relatively small stuff though; no coilovers or exhausts, body kits or front clips!

for requests, email me at [email protected] and I'll see what I can do.

FWIW I think they do have CIVIC type-Rs, I saw one the other day. It looked legit (badge, white, white 16" rims, 5MT, etc) but I can't guarantee it wasn't just a hatch turned into (exterior-wise) a "type-R".

I don't know what kind of light (if any) this sheds on the grey market imports vs. 'legitimate' imports, but a friend of mine is about to buy (not QUITE decided yet) a Toyota Tourer V (2.5l turbocharged I-6 Chaser) which he test drove here, but will only be imported from Japan when he decides to buy it for sure. That is to say, the test drive car was here, but the actual car would have to be shipped from Japan. This is 2nd hand, btw.

Adey, where in HK would me recommend to go to get stuff? What areas would have the most junkyards? Thanks.
Too bad there aren't many Silvias in HK, but I know a couple ppl from Silvia Club of HK and I will see if they can get me with Silvia parts.

In HK, no matter what car and where is it importing from, is LEGAL ! All you have to do is get it pass inspection and pay for custom ( close to 100% ). A Benz E320 (grey-market import) cost around USD$100,000 in HK as an example. And a Mondena 360 cost well over USD$300,000.

Even though a new car cost so much in HK, but as compare to used car, you can get a WRX Sti version3~4 for around USD$12,000. And a Lancer EVO 6 cost around $20,000. I have seen some S14 (jspec) in HK selling for USD$5000 with around 40000km which considered to be high miliage over there.

If you are looking for Used car in HK, go to "Yueng Long" in New terriorty they are junk yard over there ( I've seen S14 half cut for $1000 ). If you are looking for new parts from Japan, go to "Mong Kok" in Kowloon. GT sport is the biggest performance dealer in HK, good place to get NEWNEW parts, but pricy.

P.S.: When you get parts from HK, be prepare to get rip off because they will charge installation even if you are taking it overseas. It's because they make money from installation.

Yeah, I was expecting you to tell me those two places, but I was just hoping there would be more, but maybe there isn't. I think it's pretty hard to get to Yueng Long right? Because I don't think buses would reach those places. Do you know how to get there from Tuen Mun?
Is there a Chinese name to the store GT sport? I was hanging out in Mong Kok a lot last summer, but I haven't seen it really.
Thank you so much for answering my questions, if this works out, I will definitely hook you up. thanks.

If you hang out around Mong kok, you know know where is the "sneaker street", and if you ask the anyone on the street about performance shops, they should know.
If you are in Tun Moon, you can take the train or if you don't want to go directly to the shop , just call cab.
if you want to know more about those performace shop, buy a magazine call TOPMISSION or OPTIONFANS.

Thank you Jupiterl for giving the info, I'm not actually very knowledgable about HK tuning shops or junk yards at all... I'd only really gotten into cars in the states... especially seeing as I don't have a car here in HK.

Where out in Tuen Mun and Yuen Long are the junk yards? I've never gone out to them before and would be really interested in checking their stuff out.

BTW another intereresting (if not good) magazine to pick up is Option 1.2 -- it has a lot of used (modded) cars and related car parts.

Jupiterl - since you seem to know more than me, do you know where I can find Bride Seats for a good price? I've found shops with them, but they seem pretty pricey.

Thanks!

Adey, when will you leave HK? I am going back on the 29th of June, maybe we can go together.
But one tip for junkyard shopping, 99.99% of the time, those people are pretty low class and probably rude, so act the same way. If you act all nice and polite, you won't get good deals.

If I take the light train to Yuen Long, I would probably have to walk A LOT right?

I don't think you will be able to walk to the closest junk yard in that area. You HAVE to call cab or drive.
