well, as some people may already know, last week i got my car running after doing alot of internal work.
well the problem started sunday when the car wouldnt run or start any more.
so, yesterday i did a compression test and found that i had no compression in any cylinders. so i took the valve cover off and cranked it over to see what the problem was. and i noticed that the intake cam was not spinning.
so me and my friend took the cams off and saw that the key on the intake cam snaped and the cam sprocket spun without spinning the cam.
so we pulled the head off and saw that the #4 piston and #2 piston had dings on them. then we looked at the head and saw that the #4 cylinder valves were bent,

it even gets worse, my friend droped a cotter pin down the lower timing chain cover and fell into the oil pan.

so in other words, i am screwed,
i just wanted to tell this to people so they know what i went through and i hope they never need to do this.

What was going on when it failed? Massive boost? It's weird seeing the top end of the KA fall apart like that.

Heh, i guess when forged pistons smack a valve they only get nicked instead of shattering.

That seriously sucks man, I'm sorry. What did cause this? Weren't you supposed to race the Viper on Saturday, or am I thinking of someone else? If so, did you ever find out what was knocking? I'm guessing you didn't race the Viper, which is sad!

yes i was supposed to race the viper, but he cant make the race this weekend so we decided to race in two weeks. and i found the knocking. it was the valve.

i ordered everything today for overnight delivery so i should be up and running this weekend. i also ended up buying Jim Wolf cams and camgears.

what caused this? i dont have a clue. maybe i just didnt torque that one cam gear down right and it loosened up.

i will be working on it all week and weekend so hopefully i can get it running soon

That sucks man, I know what you mean by being screwed. I was blessed with a thrown rod, a broken ankle, and having to move back in november. Many months later after alot of saving and ordering parts my sr20 swap is about to be performed on my 91 coupe.

good luck with your car man.
