I've heard a lot about getting a sr20det. I want one but what car should i take it form? the s13, the s14, or the s15? Many people tell me to get the s13 sr20det engine, but why would i when its less horsepower than the other ones? And should i just stay with a ka engine? cause I mean there is a lot more parts for the ka engine thant eh sr? man someone help me out here man.

What year is your car? Do you have a ka24e or ka24de. The main thing to know is that if you built your ka a little bit and then put on a turbo, you can have 250-350hp depending on kit, boost, and engine type. Give more info about your car and ill try to help better.

Also, are you looking for high or low-end power? The SR motor lacks some torque while the KA doesn't. Depends on what you're looking for.

The reason you want the S13 SR20 (red top sr) is because the other one's are more expensive cause they have better parts from the factory and lower miles. But lets face it your gonna rip most of those better stock parts off and upgrade them. So why not start with the cheaper engine in the first place.

yes. Is the s13 motor just like the other silvias with just not as many upgrades on the motor? Because if its the same i think id be just better off getting a s13 motor and build it up. I was lookign a while ago at www.junusa.com and they had parts for the sr20det and it was mostly for the s14's. Would those parts also go into the s13? and what are some other good sites with parts for sr engines?

The SR engine are amazing, but there is alot to be said about going with a Turbo KA. I depends on your goal. FMAX makes a great turbo kit for the 95+ KA's and promises 240hp and the wheels.

Plus the kit is all you'll need from ecu to injectores to the T3/T4 hybrid turbo. If you have greater goals think SR or talk to West about his KA.

It's such a hard decision to make: SR vs. KA. I would personally go with the KA on my '91 and try and find another S13 and do an SR swap on that one. I need to get a better-paying job to do all this, but... this is what I'd love to do. Just my .02.
P.S. I'm kind of leaning toward KA turbo rather than SR (parts availability, torque...)

the s14/s15 also have the vvtc. from what i've heard it's worth it to spend the extra money and get the s14.

I wouldn't suggest getting it if you plan to work the motor. The variable valve timing cannot catch up to the power at some period in time and can only stop functioning. Red head works just fine

S13Grl you took the words right out of my mouth. The variable timing ion the SR isn't as extreme as say V-TECH (thats why there is only a 10 HP increase) so the extra cost in my opinion would not be worth it, also more expensive stuff to break. The red top just looks cool to.

If you want free high reving and top end horse power then go with an sr. If you like torque then stay with the KA, but the ka internal is quite limited to boost cause of it high compression ratio pistons, thin ring land and long stroke. from my personal experience with the 240sx, I would pick the sr20det over building up the ka, cause I once had that engine under my hood. but it your call

It can all be upgraded . I'd like to turbo my KA since I like torque, but hey-to each his own.

I agree, for me that NSport turbo kit stage one works for me. Of course once I can afford that the JWT ecu and new injectors come right after.

But have you seen the monster apex intercooler for the kit. Man that looks good.

I think S13Grl and I should take our twin 91's out once the turbos come in and burn up some 5.0 blue ovals.

I wouldnt mind that
But, my turbo isn't getting here any time soon . It's gonna be snowing in a month, and I don't want to be pushing 200RWHP on the snow. I mean I like drifting and all, but... not along parked cars and other cars that are driving 10mph.
I STILL WANT A TURBOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I'd add that the S14 KA is better suited to a turbo than the S13 version (stonger internals). People are putting down about 300 whp on stock internals. The big issue in my decision is that I bought an S14 intending to go SR (only to later reconsider the KAT) - read as high mileage! If I had a sub 60K KA I would be talking to FMax and not a junkyard in Japan... of course, I haven't ruled out talking to a yard here in the US or even a few swap owners to get me a low mi. KA for dirt cheap.
