yup just replace the diff cover. i'm not sure if it matters, but i also switched the bolts to the subframe as well when i swapped diffs between my s14 and s13.

Yeah use the shorted s13 bolts and maybe think about getting solid diff cover bushings

If you still have the s13 differential, there is no "bushings" to mount the diff to the chassis, the s13 differentials are just solid mounted w/ bolts.

If you have an s14 or z32 or j30 pumpkin, then yes, you can use those bushings. In fact you can even go solid bushing: S14 240sx Solid Differential Bushings.

The s14 subframe has these nice gay bushings to let your diff jump all over the place..

While the S13's subframe doesnt have any stupid bushings where the diff mounts..

So if you use an S14 diff on an S13 subframe, the front mounting points may line up, and bolt up, but then ANY torque applied is going to be absorbed by the aluminum diff cover which is rigidly mounted to the subframe, not the bushings installed in the front mounting points, as designed.

doing it the other way has no "ill effects" because the cast iron diff is going to absorb all of the torque, while the rear mounting points on the aluminum diff cover are mounted in the S14 subframes bushings.

Hope this helps..

Has anyone ever had a problem breaking stuff without the solid diff cover bushings on s14 with a s13 pumpkin?

i have done the swap from an s14 to an s13. all you need to do is swap the rear diff cover to the chassis that you are using it for... use rtv to seal it up that will work fine.

take your s13 diff and put your s14 cover on it. mount it back in the car using the s14 bolts... and you are good to go.

Stock. The rear housings are different between the chassis. S13 has 4 bolts vs S14 has 2 bolts on the back. The other difference is the 2 bolt holes on the nose, S13s are skinny with just the bolts running thru it. S14s are larger and have some poly bushings in them. Most folks prefer the S13 pumpkin since there's no extra bushings up front.

As others have stated previously, S13 differential assembly (case, actual differential, output shafts Also known as pumpkin) to be installed into an S14 subframe should just require you to swap a rear cover from an s14.
I have previously verified this but it's been years since I did ( I have a problem with hoarding parts, so don't ask me to dig anything out from my basement that might one day be on Hoarders? the TV series)

At the top of each page, there's a Thread Tools button. You can subscribe to threads that way if you want to find them later, without having to bump ancient threads

Other than his build thread, all of that guy's comments the last few years are generic "thank you" bumps. Kind of odd, but at least he doesn't seem to be a spam bot, lol.
