transmission acting strange, please help.

car is a 1990 240sx with a redtop sr20/transmission and an aftermarket clutch.

my transmission is acting very strange lately, and it is making the car undrivable. when i stop at a stoplight the car will stall because the transmission never fully disengages. in order to shift back into 1st gear to start driving i have to turn the car completely off, otherwise the lever wont go into first. it is also very hard to shift through the other gears. when i bought the car it had a shitty megan short shifter which might be part of the problem.

i just started college so i dont have the time or tools to work on it myself so i will have to take it to a shop. i dont want to walk into a shop without knowing exaclty what the problem is so if anyone has had this problem or knows wht is wrong that would help me a lot.

thanks,
jeremy

clutch not disengaging properly =

bad clutch hydraulics (master slave & lines)
screwed up clutch fork
screwed up pressure plate

easiest to check in that order

check to see how much you can move the release fork. if it moves very easily, the pivot ball might be broken and your release fork wont get enough leverage to fully disengage the clutch. i had the same problem.

when you change the clutch the clutch pedal itself sometimes needs to be adjusted.
same thing happened to me when i changed the clutch in a RB25 tranny. the gears would not go in or would take forever to do so .

but if you want to adjust your clutch then there should be a 10mm bolt above the clutch pedal that you simply tighten or loosen . im sorry i cant explain it very clearly but thats what resolved my problem.
