Nissankat's ls1 s14 build thread Lots of pics!!!
I wanted to post a recap of the progress of my car over the last year. This is all copy and paste from my local forum where the build was originally posted.
A link to my thread on my local forum, lots more pics and ka stuff 240SX.net • View topic - Nissankat's Progress Thread Ls1 s14!!! Ill start with some pics of the previous setup and some action shots. The cars primary use is autox and lapping days. Old motor setup. Made 345 wheel with stock bottom end With the track wheels My street wheels So I cracked a ring land for the second time on the ka and right about that time a buddy of mine called me saying he found this beauty for a hell of a price so I snagged it. It had 24k on the clock and was owned by a female. A few weeks after I got it I had the motor out looking like this It was very clean on the inside I soon had the Gto parted out and ended up getting the ls1, t56 and all the good for the swap for about 800. Daft mounts and header came shortly there after. Here is the motor after I cleaned it up and replaced what was nessisary The motor got a Texas Speed Torquer V2 cam, Comp Cams springs, Ported and shimed oil pump and arp rod bolts. Here is a pic of the ducting I started. I had to have something to fill the void left by the intercooler removal A pic of the an fittings for the fuel lines Here is where I mounted the coolent sensors. One is for my aem water temp gauge and the other is for the cluster Monster stage 3 clutch with 15lb flywheel Motor going in Hood clearance. It just clears. about half a finger width on the top of the tb. and Pro 5.0 shifter and its location Then I worked on the fuel lines. Here you can see the routing and if you look close you will see my fuel filter behind them motor and the patch panel I made for the holes left by the ac line removal. Next up was the power steering. I wanted to run a power steering cooler but the budget is getting a little low so I came up with something else. I decided to use the cooling loop from the GTO. It was really easy to mount and fit pretty much perfect. I know it is not the best cooler but I think it will be better then not having one at all. Here are some pics. Notice how well the hard lines fit. You can also see the high pressure line I made and wrapped in flame guard since it will be close to the header. Here is a pic of the overview. I finally got the accusump all plumbed and working. Its sitting in the garage with 60psi in it right now. Here are some pics.
Canton filter adaptor You cant even see it from the front and I dont think it will block any air flow. At the dyno I hit my goal of 400 on the first pull so I was very happy. I have to say pcmforless.com does some great mail order tunes. We only had to make some very minor changes on the dyno. We fattened up the fuel a little and added 2 degrees of timing and ended up with 405 on a very safe tune. Just to recap this is with a tsp torquer v2 cam, 4 inch intake, Daft headers, 85mm throttle body and a 15lb chromoly flywheel. Last edited by nissankat; 12-14-2009 at 08:31 PM.. |

Now for some events. First autox in the car with the ls1
Here is a little vid. Kinda dull and I had my in car cam mounted way to low. Then a drift event a bit later I'm not much of a drifter but I did an event this weekend anyway. Decent footage of my car in here. Audio is crap though. Last edited by nissankat; 12-14-2009 at 08:34 PM.. |

It's been awesome seeing this thing come together over the past year and lending a hand when in town. Your build has been the inspiration for me building my car since the beginning. Super clean and 100% trackable. Looks great as usual. Keep up the good work and keep up posted with your progress (which has been a lot over the past year).

First of all, thanks for all the positive feedback. I'm glad you guys appreciate all the effort that I put into the build of this thing.
If you guys are interested I think I may continue updating this thread as I make progress with the car. I already have a few item that I did not add such as the details of my diff setup. Quote:
I really loved my kat setup. It made good power and treated me very well but I was always worried about pushing it to hard and blowing it because it was a stock block. With the ls1 I no longer have that worry with its nearly stock status. The ls1 makes an extra 50hp which is nice but I do not see that as its main advantage. The power delivery of the ls1 is just awesome compared to the ka. The power comes on so smooth and controllable from where ever you happen to be in the rev range. On corner exits with the ka I would jam on the pedal and have to wait for the little bit of lag and then the power would hit and rip the tires loose. This is not the case now. I just roll on the pedal and shoot out of the corner. The power is everywhere with the ls making it so that I rarely have to shift. At Roebling I can do the entire track (except the straight) in 4th gear. Quote:

That is nauseatingly cheap. I have spent that on my motor/trans set up and it isn't even put together yet .
Not that it matters for that price but is it a 5.7 or 6.0 GTO?

I know I've probably told you this 10x on Silviavafourms, but I love the build. Looks awesome and keeps me motivated. Hope to have mine on the road, in the next couple of weeks. Just have to sort out my DBW issues.
