I just got my car back from the body shop about 3 weeks ago. Front bumper, hood and other little goodies were replaced. I'm in the parking garage at school today behind an SUV. Somebody else comes in the other direction. The SUV in front of me puts it in reverse to let the other person by. I start to worry. Problem is, there's somebody behind me. I start hitting the horn, but it's too late. I hear the cracking sound. The person goes by and then the SUV starts to leave. Now I'm really worried. I don't have a chance to get any witnesses names/phone numbers because I had to chase this guy down. He says he didn't know he hit me - "Sorry, I didn't look behind me," he says. So back to the shop I go. He says he'll pay for it, no insurance. First estimate is around $1800, we'll see if he still wants to pay.

here's a pic or two:

this shop that wants 1800$ to fix that, are they the same shop who painted your front bumper? Because thats an outrageous price and thats the worst paint matching job I've ever seen.

He has no insurance and says "he didn't see you" even though he hit you and you laid on the horn. I'll count you lucky if you get money from him.

I agree... Hopefully we will be wrong for your sake.

Personally I would have taken down the plate number of the vechile and called the police. I would have still probably chased him down also. At least by doing that you might have had the back up of the court system to help make him pay for your damages.

What next? ...Brakes, suspension, or something else?

UPDATE: going to re-build front end (bumper, fenders, hood, headlights) due to accident!!

No no no...I got his plate number, parking sticker number, drivers license number, etc, so I'm not too worried. I think he has insurance, just didn't want rates to go up - I dunno. It's costing so much because the C-west bumper costs ~$630. I wasn't happy with the paint match either last time. I took it to a different place for the estimates, and they said they'd blend the paint. Both shops lauged at the paint matching that the other place did.
