I always thread them on a few turns by hand, then turn them on with the impact. That goes without saying.
It's the removal that counts - after they've been properly torqued, and driven around for a while, I like to be able to jack the car up and take the impact gun and pull them straight off, without needing to use a breaker bar before jacking the car up.
