hot under hood!!!!

well i had my s13 with a sr almost 2 yrs...mods it has are s15 turbo, aftermarket header, full exhaust,fmic,550 injectors and tuned with power fc

lately ive smelled like if something was burning under my hood...so i check and everything looked normal...then one day while driving all the brake fluid from my master cylinder was gone cause a little hole was created with the heat

so i look and feel alot of heat...more than normal from the header

is this normal?

what could be the problem?

I would heat wrap the headers, personally over putting in more metal in your engine bay. To my knowledge, metal absorbs heat i.e. heatsoak. Why would someone put that over headers to get even hotter just makes no sense to me. Grab some heatwrap and wrap up those headers! Cheap and affective.

Heat wrap can cause cracks in cheap headers or turbo manifolds. If its a cheap CX racing one or something like it do not wrap it. But the tomei sr20det manifold can handle the heat.

Juts run a heat sheild and you will be ok. If you want you can gold thermal wrap the master cylinder and be even better off.

it doesnt go over the headers it actually divides it and is mounted against the bmc. Ive heard heat wrap cracks headers but in my opinion its idiots who dont install flex pipes and not installing correctly the cheap heavy exhausts that usually complain about that.

plus if you see they do sell gold plating wrap to prevent heat transfer as well. soo......use all of them and youll be fine?

Realistically, even the best can potentially surface rust from wrapping, but the reality is anything is better than nothing.

I personally would suggest BBQ painting the manifold at a minimum (as tubular style are known to dissapate more heat than the cast iron stock, and loose power at the same time). I'd also check bae timing, as even a little off can create a significant amount of heat.

Any exhaust leaks where the turbo meets the elbow? My girls car had a leak there and it caused her brake fluid to boil and cause the brake master cap to melt itself shut.
