HELP! Short Shifter Instal
Hey, im installing a shortshifter, have a few questions.. I have it almost off except for the 2 bolts at the front, one of them is completly loose, but there isnt enough room inbetween the tranny and the body to remove it...
1)How the fuck do you get the bolts off that are that the front(closest to the motor) They are underneath everything, how do you get them off? 2)Do I need to drop the tranny to remove/install the shifter plate(I think thats the name of it) 3)If I could, should I saw the bolts off? Or is it a must that I reinstall those bolts so shit doesnt get into my tranny or whatever. Hopefully someone can give me help ASAP because I am in the middle of doing this right now hehe |

C-stars- you can use clean language to express yourself. Just because you don't know something doesn't mean you need to use vulgarity.
As for those bolts, chase them down with a wrench. If you can't, then use an extended wrench. If you saw them off, how are you going to take them out afterwards? |

Lower the tranny, don't cut the bolts. With the tranny lowered you will have room to get to the bolts. Remove the shifter from the plate, slide the plate in from the bottom, install bolts, then raise tranny, install shifter, then enjoy your new hotness. good luck.

I got to em using a pretty ghetto/crappy method...i just drilled holes in the floorpan right above where the 2 bolts are and stuck a ratchet down there. crappy idea, i know, but it worked.

If you pull out the shifter which is attached to the plate, the plate will be left on.
When I installed my B&M, like someone mentioned before I used a hole saw to cut perfect holes in the transmission housing metal directly above the two front bolts and used a socket to remove. However, to prevent rust and avoid a sloppy look, I sanded, primed, and painted the surrounding holes and area. I then installed two capped rubber grommets around the holes...done. This is all to avoid dropping the transmission if you dont have much room to work with. |

hmm.. I actually got it right after I posted. Good things when your best friends dad is a parts technician. Put a jack under the tranny, unbolt the crossmember, lowered it about an inch, got them out.
Now my only problem is that the gasket inbetween the tranny and the shifter plate was ripped, can I just get something like this at any parts store? or Do I need to make gaskets... |
