Ready to order NEW BRAKES. Question about BREMBO's!
I have an '89 180SX. From what I have read I need 'NON ABS' 93 altima rotors and 93 MAXIMA pads. Can someone confirm this?
I'm going with Hawk HPS pads, and was thinking Brembo blanks. Is there any real advantage to brembos? If they are blank and the same size rotor, wouldn't an OEM replacement perform just as well? |

Brembo is a good quality replacement.
Blanks aren't expensive at all, better than cheapo advance auto blanks. and I believe you are right regarding the 180sx brake setup, but I'm not 100%, I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Mine do too. ^^
It isn't too bad. I'm going to get some brake cleaner and see it that'll fix some of it. Then again it could be my pads there band new...

I don't see the need to pay a premium for Brembo...
I run the Autozone blanks and they came out to under $100 for all 4 with a warranty... If they crack or just wear down all the way, they will give me a new set... Cheap rotors and very good pads are the way to go...

The only thing that would make me want Brembo blanks is if they are a better quality metal so they don't warp as quick. Anyone have any experience with them? |

on my red hatch im using powerslot and theyve been holding up for 4 years now and look to have lots of life left on them.
on my coupe i couldnt locate any powerslots instock so i went with a local company ( KVR) and they seem to be holding up fine except for one thing..... the part where the studs are is rusting ..... so im guessing thats the difference between brembo and cheap company |

i have run various sets of brembo blanks since like 2003 they rust just like every other non zinc plated rotor anywhere the pads aren't always scrubbing them |

I have 180sx brakes I just picked up and plan to go with the same setup; 95 Altima Brembo rotor/95 Maxima Hawk pads
After doing some searches, that set up will not have the "overhang" issue with the pads. |

Having tracked my car quite a few times, and having buddies do the same, we will ALL atest to the best setup being a simple set of Carquest blanks and good (we all prefer Carbotech) pads. Don't buy into the cross drilled and slotted horseshit either. Both do nothing more than eat your pads faster, make noise, and crack. I'll put my money on anythin gthat the blank rotors actually stop a street car FASTER be retaining some heat needed for good brake pads (by good, I don't mean EBC Green or Red Doodoo, or cheap Hawks you get at carquest)

I only got the Brembos because I told my father I was looking for them, then he found them and bought them for me. So I'll take free Brembo's over paying for generic ones. ![]() |

It's not about wear and longevity for me but performance. The cheap blanks/Hawk combo just didn't bite quite how I'd like them to, glossed pretty soon and gave me a nasty pedal feel. Not linear as with the Brembos. Did the same with my AE92 trying to save money - cheap rotors and pads, came to ~$120 for all the parts - and again, brakes feel like crap. The old adage you get what you pay for comes to mind. |

Really? That's interesting. Always good to have a point of view from someone who had both. I think I will be in good shape then with brembos and HPS pads. |

Hey, always good to get more opinions! I got a nice set of brembo blanks when I had Carbotech Pads on my Altima, and didn't notice a darn bit of difference. Only reason I swapped rotors was due to exploding a CV joint and getting grease everyhwere...damn FWD turbo cars! However I have been in other s14's with the same weight/pads/master cylinders as me, and couldn't tell the difference between rotors either...then again, we're beating the dogshit out of them during HPDE days....they tend to bed pads in reallllly fast.
