Lubing Bottom cylinder (ka34de)

A mechanic at my job explained to me that it isn't always the best idea to turbo an engine thats not built for a turbo - he told me that my engine lacks the bottom lubricator that the sr20 has, so my engine would wear down quiker.

I like like my engine & I want to go fast reliably - is ther anyway to customize a bottom cylinder lubricator - or am I just looking at a 200hp n/a engine at most if I want to keep my engine reliable.

thanks -

Bottom lubricator? hahhahahhahhahahhahahaha that sounds really perverted.
wow and your mechanic said that hahahahhahhahahhahahha.

oh and for a custom bottom lubricator you might try some astro glide.

Seriously though,Piston oil squirters is the correct terminology and actually KA's )do have them.

except for the 34's which were uber rare!

So your mechanic is not only dumb but clueless as well. hmmmm goes right along with bottom lubricators.

my bad i made a type-o, anyhow he didn't use the terminology bottom lubricator.. I just couldn't remember the name. I'm not sure they would be piston oil squirters - I'm sure he has some idea of what he's doing - alot of guys have 240's around here... anyhow thanks man i look that up.

by the way i don't really need to know about you lubing you bottom with astro glide before you get bored and stroked I think thats a different forum

Hahahahahaha nice try at a lame comeback., but you fail completely at asking a question properly. To not get silly responses and get the right answers you have to ask the right question. Otherwise you suffer noob! get use to it this is Zilvia.

Oh and you you infer quite a bit based off my joke. I would watch that if I were you. You're the noob here.

The KA has the same piston squirters that the SR have...

Beyond that the KA has a larger bearing surface, cast iron block, and larger displacement... IMO it can handle more abuse than the SRs...

Well, if he had actually worked on both he would know the lubrication system is similar.

I was impressed by the engine shop I went to knew about the KA & SR. Was even fixing another shops bad job on a SR rebuild. Most of their work was circle track and other v8 work.

He was inclined that ether motor was capable of handling a fair amount of boost. Really the stroke and bore differences are more important.

The shops assistant did mumble something about the SR being a aluminum can and he would rather have a Iron block any day. But, he was only in charge of the hot tank...

ok, so i am a noob - ( my comback wasn't that lame but it wasn't that great either) Anyways sorry this post was pointless to you guys - I'm just kind of eager to learn about my engine & what not.

I guess I have some recapping to do with the mechanic - I'll get back on here with some less vague terminology (sp?)

by the way bottom lube = ID ftw

www.ka-t.org :: View topic - How to build a KA24DE

This will answer your questions, the DOHC KA has both the oil squirters on the rods and on the block(identical to the SR), the SOHC just has them on the rods. I would say not to fully trust a random engine builder for japanese motors. Unless they have dealt w/ them they really wont know what they are talking about. KA-t.org would probably be your best bet for KA-t, a good comeback to the engine builder would have been, "No Honda motor ever came turbo, but ppl make huge HP w/ them no problem."

For the record I know the honda city and some Acuras came F/I so please no comebacks on that statement.

I offered to use bottom lubricator on my girlfriend last night, but she said spit would suffice.

Unfortunately it did not help protect my piston from corrosion as much as the latter.

=( *sigh*

Bore is how wide the piston/cylinder is across.
Stroke is how far the piston moves up/down in the bore.
