High RPM?

Anyone know how I can fix my car? When cruising on the freeway at 55mph, my RPM is unusually high at 2,500rpm. I drive a 1991 S13 and it's always been like that since I got it not too long ago. Is there any way I can fix this? I know this is unusual. I'm in 5th gear and it shouldn't be that high!

Please help!

Thanks,
--Marc

hmmm yeah 25,000 RPMs is really high......i didnt know KA's could REV that high lol

its not an electrical thing, Only way to lower your curizing RPM's is to either re-gear the Diff or the Tranny

Hmm, how much Torque are you putting out? Reason being, you may have a honda motor. Hence those high Rpms

Thanks for the sarcasm guys.. I fixed the typo. But seriously, the car sounds like its struggling at 60mph on the freeway. Not good Revs to 3000 at 60mph

thats awesome!

does it sound anything like this??
YouTube - Renault's 2.4L V8 @ 20,000 RPMs

edit* aw, too little too late... ^nice vid nonetheless.

hmm, im usually roughly at about 3000 @ 70mph in 5th
something must be up with your gears although idk how that could be...

or maybe your tach is just messed up.

does it sound like its @ 2500 or 3000? if you can compare it with another..

also are you on stock wheel sizes? your rim setup could be throwing off your speedo just a little...

yep thats about right its the same for me thats why our hgwy gas mileage sucks. put some 70 series tires and you'll get 35mpg or something like that. the taller the tire the more it cuts down the gear ratio. on 215 60r 15's i do the same as you at 65 mph it sucks. or put a j30 diff in it i think its like 3.90 or something like that. stock 240sx gear is 4.08.

Oh ok.. I have a stock KA and yes, my rims/tires aren't stock anymore. I'm running a weird size a friend of mine traded me for: 205/40/17. I need bigger tires. What should I get with my 17"s?

Thanks, guys

205/40/17 is pretty small for the rear. I ran that size up front before but not rear...

according to this tire size calc: Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing

your speedo is about 3.2% too fast... that's not that bad, but it is probably contributing to what you're feeling with the RPM.

I ran 225/45/17s on 17x7 for a while and loved em..
