Clutch Fan vs Electric Fan

I was wondering which would be considered better in a SR swap. I know back in the day a electric fan was almost a must as no one had SR shrouds, but Enjuku now sells OEM ones for $100.

I'm not hard core, so if I go with an electric solution, I would use is pulling a Mustang or Taurus fan from the pick-n-pull.

I also don't have the plastic fan blade for the SR, just the clutch unit, I was going to see if the SR fan bolts on to it.

the KA Fan Should bolt on to ur Sr Clutch Fan I would go with the Clutch Fan looks factory just make sure you use the shroud

just saved you alot of cash!!!nissanparts.cc sells the fan shouds also for 24$.05 for the s13..ask for russell he always hooks it up

id say rule of thumb
if you can fit the clutch fan keep the clutch fan.


all though i have flex a lites on my car but they are really loud cuz they blow hard like a jet plane

the clutch fan and fan shrouds are not interchangable from ka to sr and vice versa

Clutch fans are not interchangable, shrouds should be, at least they were for me.

If you want to run a clutch Fan, then make sure you use the SR Shroud otherwise it's useless. There are positives and negatives for both Clutch and Electric Fans. You pick.

clutch fan/shroud is the way to go.. i had some "cx" fans that the fins got loose and ended up rubbing on my radiator causing tiny pin holes. Theres no real gain in hp so i never really understood why many use the efan setup, i actually run a lot cooler w the clutch fan

Electric fan keep the engine bay cleaner looking. Its also easy to pull the engine out when you overheat it. However nothing beats stock proper clutch fan setup. The electric fan is not that powerful. It barely have 0.5 horsepower to push the fan. To have a powerful motor you need a huge motor and lots of current. That beat having a clean looking engine bay. Stock setup have 200 hp motor behind it . 1 hp going to fan is enough for cooling 500 hp engine. 1 hp is 745 watts. So you need to pull 62 amp from your alternator with 90 amp rating.

The SR is a motor that typically runs hot. People always recommend doing electric fans, but I think with other, more effective cooling mods, your fan setup shouldnt really make a difference. Whatever setup you decide to do (electric or clutch fan), as long as its done PROPERLY, you shouldnt have a problem. I dont think your fan setup should be the deciding factor in whether or not your setup is going to overheat. Ive got an SR going in this summer, and my plans are as follows: Mishimoto or equivalent radiator, Nismo 62*C thermostat, FMIC, Samco hoses, and a clutch fan with SR shroud. Ill probably run Engine Ice as well. I dont anticipate any problems. I think the electric fans are an extra step that 90% of the people on here could skip.

you will pick up a couple hp with e-fans as the clutch fan draws a parasitic loss, but overall is more efficient for cooling unless you spend good money on fans. pick your poison.

im back on a clutch fan now. was on electric before because i was aiming for a much cleaner look engine bay and plus if you running those fancy pulleys like the blue greddy ones, clutch fan with a shroud covers them. haha. a high school kid told me this.

anyway, im back on clutch fan with a shroud now because i used to forget to turn on or turn off the electric fan. even with the lighted switch. i had couple of batteries die on me.

umm fan controller

i run e fans looks clean and there is a ton more room to work
without having to pull the shourd

i use to run efans. but it was cool while while the fans were alive. once one died. i had to scramble to find a clutch fan. From that i felt that i couldnt rely on the efans so ive been clutch fan ever since and havent had a problem. as for as powerloss. i dont think so.^^^^

well that was a contradiction if i ever heard one.... 1 hp is 1 hp.....

its a clutch on a drive belt. its a heavy rotating mass. its going to use some power. the crank is going to spin a little more freely. why do you think people do lightweight pulleys? because they look cool? (i guess in south jersey.. they must match your haircut) im sure the amount is negligable. i said a couple hp, you said 1 hp... big difference there...

i dont have any dyno proof. do you? didnt think so. so dont go calling people wrong if you dont have the facts to back it up.

1st. Its not a heavy rotating mass. It engages using heat from the radiator passing over the veins of the clutch to increase friction. It engages when you need it - which is when hot air is being sucked from the radiator past the clutch veins in turn lowers the slip ratio. You have no idea what your talking about. There is much less of a power loss with a fully operational clutch fan vs an electric fan that is engaged. I burned my alternator out an hour away from home because of my electric fans. A clutch fan will always be better.
