QR - what do you use?

yes i searched so dont hate... i swear i recalled a recent QR thread over the last 4-6 weeks but cant find it

im in the market for a QR - i want something with a slim design - i see some which have large paddles and its just

i was keen as and have been for 2 months on an aworks gunmetal qr - however aworks are being asshats so im gonna look elsewhere

what are the difference between all the nrg version qr's etc?

anyone got pics of theirs installed? i like the design of the aworks one

will be using a nardi on it so..

I use Works Bell Rapfix II (steering wheel is no name brand Japan wheel, with Nardi horn button)

Hub is Works Bell Short Hub for S13

Obviously I'm biased, but even before I had Works Bell I saved up and bought the Signal Auto quick release (discontinued now, the awesome CNC'ed one) at FULL POP from Signal...was like $310 out the door?

I didn't even haggle, I knew what I wanted and paid what it cost. Didn't regret that purchase at all

But to each his own, each person has a different budget and criteria, and that's all good in the hood

well i'm runnin with a peakperformance QR with a NRG shorthub ..it fits a nardi perfect.. works perfect for me .. and it looks good too .. no problems ... here's how it looks on my car

Actually, Works Bell does not manufacture the current Signal Auto quick release.

I sold my original Signal quick release a couple years ago.

With an NRG QR, do i need anything other than my steering wheel? Do i need the QR AND an AFTERMARKET HUB? I kinda thought it was all built together, but then i saw something called a "short hub"?



Also, what makes works bell better than NRG? Please be specific and not use descriptive terms that a middle schooler would use such as "shits better cause its baller!". Is it a SAFETY issue, or just looks? Thanks!!!!

As Long Grain stated, you need at least:

Steering wheel
Steering wheel hub

The quick release is NOT a necessity, and is an optional piece. Your main concern is that you need to make sure that the hub has the same pattern as your steering wheel you are buying (for example Momo pattern is different than Nardi).

Works Bell is the originator of all of the quick release products you're familiar with. They are THE premier steering wheel performance in Japan, and private label for companies you might be familiar with such as: FET, Splash, etc.

Works Bell produces using the highest quality control, processes, and materials, while copy companies seem to make a product that appears similiar, but cuts corners in order to lower their cost and make a cheaper product.

The Works Bell Rapfix II, specifically, uses a machined body made of forged aluminum, and also utilizes Works Bell "Ball Lock" technology, which insures solid, precise locking, with no play.

Convincing a skeptic of why Works Bell is better than their imitators is not an easy task, since visually the imitations appear the same. It is most DEFINITELY a SAFETY issue, however, when using products others than authentic Works Bell.

Works Bell has been certified by NAPAC (Nippon Auto Parts Aftermarket Community), a materials standards company for aftermarket products in Japan.

In order to meet these standards, Works Bell has conducted extensive testing on their products before releasing them to market. As an example (on the Rapfix II), specific radial tests were conducted with live loads of close to 300 N/m, and a bending test with over 200 N/m. In addition, repeated tests (10,000 test instances) on the same test subject item resulted in no deformity or change in shape.

I could go on about more specific data that supports Works Bell's commitment to safety, but I don't want to bore anyone with technical data. In short, this is what Works Bell does, and I'm quite certain that their imitators do nothing of the sort.

Here is an example of how a COPY company has chose to cut corners:

An imitation company copied a lock from Works Bell. The problem is that, they copied ONE lock from Works Bell. As a result, one key will open any copy lock. Interesting isn't it? That's what happens when a copy company cuts corners and copies only ONE lock.

With Works Bell's current 25+ existing key combinations, it makes it highly improbable that a potential thief might have the same key. Compare this to only one key for copy locks, and its obvious who you'd feel safer using.

I'm not pointing fingers at anyone for using imitations, and that's totally fine, as you have the choice to use what fits your taste and budget.

Hopefully this addresses your concerns appropriately.

There is a lip on the QR that you pull back towards you and it retracts the balls holding the QR on.

And the lock covers the hub so other wheels can't get on.

It is also smooth so it's hard to just clamp a wrench onto it and turn the wheel.

As amazing as ASpec and Logan are, I went with the NRG V2 (of course I got the wheel from Logan). I did alot of searching on other forums and the general consensus of the NRG is that they get the job done on and off the track, no failures that I know of. To put my opinion into perspective, I've never used one of the more expensive QRs, but the NRG so far has served me very well, no noticeable play.

it does its job, easy to take off because you dont have to push the button like the older ones.

no $$$$ for a ballin works bell.


they design quick releases to stay on. I have never heard of one coming off unintentionally.

I have a FET one and I've never had a problem of the steering wheel coming off during driving in the two years I've had it.

No problem, I understand that the Rapfix II isn't for everyone, but at the same time I want people to understand that with their reputation and price comes functionality and true research + testing. This is NOT meant for show use, but rather is purpose build for motorsports (if you look at all top D1 drivers, they all use Works Bell, as well as other top racing machines built in Japan).

Within that page they describe the differences and improvements from the original Rapfix I and the new Rapfix II.

In regards to your questions:

1. On the Rapfix II, there is a loaded button which you press, then pull the collar back to release the quick release from locked position. There is no way to have this come off during driving.

An an optional piece, you can purchase a Rapfix Flipper, which actually works as a mechanism to push the button for you (in a sense) as you pull back on it, making it one sweeping motion to release the quick release. Again, there is no way for this to come off during driving.

Here's is how the Rapfix Flipper would work:


If you look closely, there is a little button on the top of the body of the quick release, which the Flipper is sliding over. If you didn't have that Flipper, you would need to depress the button yourself and pull back on the collar. The Flipper attaches to the outside of the collar, via allen screws.

2. The Rapfix II lock slides over the hub side of the Rapfix II quick release, when the steering wheel side of the release is removed. See here:



It locks over the hub side of the quick release, so no one can put on a steering wheel and drive away, nor can anyone remove your hub, and put on a new hub then put on a steering wheel and drive away. Essentially this immobilizes the car and adds security value. Keep in mind that this is a deterrant, not a guarantee. Your car could still be stolen via flat bed, tow truck, etc.

Hopefully that clarifies it. Anyone is more than welcome to stop by and test out and try the products from Works Bell. It doesn't matter to me whether or not you buy them, but I'd rather everyone be aware of what the real item is made to feel and work like.

i got a Nardi Rally sport deep corn with nrg slim and a works bell hub. works good so far, only complaint i have is my horn button doesnt go in all the way on the QR piece that attaches to the wheel.

since on the subject of locks, do the works bell lock fit onto the aworks Q/R since its a replica of the works bell? Does it also fit onto the NRG? Also, does NRG locks only have one key for all of them? Sorry for the series of questions, just intrested! thanks

I had an NRG2.5 and I upgraded to a Works Bell and I have not looked back.
