Kouki and Zenki

Has anyone heard of Kouki and Zenkin "stock" intake manifolds on 350Zs, did Nissan carry this terminology over to the Z33 platform?

oh geez- sure you can put a s14 plenum (4 cylinder) on a 350z (6 cylinder) You just have to cut 1 in half and zip tie it to a whole one and the whole ine has to be SR and the 1/2 one has to be KA. Good luck...

Honestly- stock kouki and zenki intake plenums do not go on the 350z.

A few japanese automakers parts/cars bear the name "kouki" & "zenki". Sort of like automotive slang, I belive the term Zenki translates to first and Kouki translates to latter (last). Soooo, maybe what you saw was a "kouki" mani Z33 was the last (or latest) mani or Zenki (earliest) mani produced for the Z33.

The terms mean exactly that. They're meaningless if you don't specify the chassis.

The thread title is too vague. I think we should have a rule to make thread titles more specific to the topic.

the terminology for the z33 intake manifolds in the US is:

revup plenum - 300 hp VQ
old plenum - 287hp VQ

easy and simple...don't think they started to name intake manifolds for the Z as later model and first model b/c...in any case

old plenum = zenki (in cool jdm tyte language)
revup plenum = kouki (in cool jdm tyte language)
hr plenum = super dooper kouki (in cool jdm tyte language)

Article

Thanks for the imput just found this article from the Nismo Festival in Japan interesting. Here are two Excerpts from it to kinda explain why I asked this question.
Power House Amuse
·SPECIFICATIONS
·ENGINE & DRIVETRAIN
Nismo Spec 1 Head, Spec 2 Camshafts, Titanium Intake Valves, 0.7mm Head Gasket, Forged Pistons, Connecting Rods, Connecting Rod Bearings, Crank Journal Bearings, Fuel Pump / Amuse 90mm Titanium Suction Kit, R1 Exhaust Manifold, R1 Titanium EXTRA Muffler, HighTech ROM High Lift Cam Spl / Zenki Stock Intake Manifold / ORC Single Metallic Clutch / Cusco LSD

Note the terminology Zenki stock intake manifold, in the article about the car it goes on to say its a VQ35 (non-rev up) stock intake manifold.

Yashio Factory
SPECIFICATIONS
·ENGINE & DRIVETRAIN
Nismo Spec 2 Head, Camshafts, Titanium Valves, 0.7mm Head Gasket, Forged Pistons, H-Beam Connecting Rods, Rod Bearings, Crank Bearings, Sports Air Filter, Intake Pipe / Yashio Factory Exhaust Manifold, Muffler, ECU / Kouki Stock Intake Manifold / Nismo Copper Mix Twin Clutch, GT LSD Pro TT Model

note the terminology used here also Kouki stock intake manifold, but in the article it states that it is a 35th Anniversary Z intake, which would make it the rev up engine.

So I have heard these terms used in reference to Silvias, 180s and 240s thought someone here might be able to shed some light on the subject.

There are a few plenum spacers out there, the one I have is angled so you can retain the strut bar. Never heard of one rubbing the hood, as far as idle goes never had any problem with that either.

I apologize for my "answer a noobie question answer." Also, how do we know Nissan is not going to run this car for 15 years? We can't necessarily name early and late models just yet. It works on the S14 chassis becuase it is discontinued and we have a time frame to look at as well as a change in the front end. Imagine how it was for the S13 with it moving back and forth between coupe and hatch many times. I agree with more specific titles. I am always 75%+ specific in my thread titles.

Agreed, sorry about the vagueness on the Title, the Zenki and Kouki thing has been mentioned of late on some of the 350Z boards in reference to ordering parts from Japan. A few Z owners have been asked if their Z is Zenki or Kouki, then I ran across the article on the Nismo festival where it referenced the intake manifolds.

zenki does translate into "early model" but kouki oddly enough does not.
