Explain distributor timing to me!!
so my coil is fucked so I bought a new distributor to take care of the problem (coil is built in). So I took teh old distributor off and installed the new in. I then proceeded to start the car but it wouldn't start! So my buddy at work told me to turn the rotor a little bit at a time till the car would start. I know this might sound stupid but what exactly does turning the rotor do? how does that affect the timing? I'm sorry if that sounds newbish but for some reason its not clicking. thanks in advance
PS --> I finally did get the car to start but the timing is way off. It's at like 5 degrees BTDC
