pretend like you stole it...
take out the ignition cylinder and replace it with a new one from your local auto parts dealer...or online...make sure the years are the same. |

yea its not that easy to just replace the ignition cylinder because they use the anit theft brake off bolts which you have to drill then easy out to get them off.
ive done it before any other way? i would like to take the car home and get keys made from AAA for free because I do have AAA plus, might as well use it.

Dude... call locksmith have him come out and cut a key on site. I had one come out and crank out two new keys for mine when I lost mine. Took an hour or so and was $105. Anything short of that will be painful. Please don't start removing ignition cylinders. Soon you'll have a key for the ignition, one for the door, and one for the trunk if you keep that up.

yea exactly my point why i dont want to have to change the cylinder. Do you think I sould call AAA and have them come out and do it, its free.

It's either that or go to a local dealership with the vin number and proof that you own the car.

thats kind of jacked up if the seller is making you deal with it. Why isnt he the one paying to get a new key made?

I'd go out and tell AAA its your car and you just lost your key... I really did lose my key while jogging and they came and cut me 2 new keys for free ( I have plus memebership too)
if they know its a car you just bought they probably won't cover it though. act like its yours and just lost your key. |

Dealers only keep the key codes for 10 years back in most cases.

If you look in the glove compartment, there is a sticker with a key #. Never used it but it could help.

I have a feeling this car is a gutted shell or is missing an engine or something. AAA isn't going to cut the key if they see the car.

Use the glove box number to have a key made, my key got so dull it would hardly work and was falling out of my ignition, so i went to a locksmith, gave him the number and voila a brand new perfect key, it even says datsun on it just like the oem key.

SIR has a good point take it to a lock smith if the lock smith goes to the car instead of you bringing the car to him (wich you can't) he will carge you about $75.Trust dont go to the dealer they were charging me about 250 for two keys . The locksmith charge me $85 for two keys. It's the only way to go.

naw the car isnt gutted its just very dirty inside, running car,
surprisingly very clean exterior, only thing is, is that it has on a doughnut, but im going to put on a regular wheel before they come. The REAL QUESTION IS PEOPLE Is there any way i can unlock the steering wheel without a key???????? just need to load it on the trailor and take it home

the owner will have to be there with you...usually AAA wont do anything unless the owner is there and the car has plates on it....so make sure you got both

slide bar hammer will destroy the steering wheel lock but thats not a cool solution.
oh and be careful using trunk/door keys, make sure they use all the pins the ignition ones do, on a lot of foreign/older cars, the door keys only use the first 3 pins or so. |

Best bet, pull the rear latch and key it, it's the easiest to get out on either chassis and is the least likely to be worn out.

the lock cylinder is easy as shit to get off guys. i did have a 16 year nissan tech teach me the trick but. 2 things you can do. get access to the the gold color bolts that bolt the top and bottom piece of the lock cylinder together. they wont have any kind of way to get them out ( no + or - or hex) no need for drilling. these bolts are barely tourqued ( slightly tighter than hand tightened)
either 1. take a center punch or anything with a good point and a hammer. pick a spot on the outside of the bolt (its sunken into the lock cylinder itself) so you have something to wedge it between and keep it still. hold the center punch at angle as to when you hit it with a hammer the center punch will essentially punch into the soft bolt and unscrew. its really hard to explain but this is a simple concept. again these bolts are not tight. 2. which is what we had to do because when we bought the car off the guy, he had shit for tools in his garage. i went through this same thing. i located a nifty hacksaw. yes folks a hacksaw. since the bolts are sunken into the lock cylinder you have to cut into the lockcylinder itself to cut into the bolt. dont worry its not much and thats really weak aluminum. the right bolt( if your facing the steering wheel is really the only one i could get to but i just cut a - into it running parallel with the car. take a flathead and unscrew that bitch. you will be surprised at how loose they are. you cant use the lock cylinder anymore so what i did what took the same flathead and pry the top and bottom half of the cylinder apart. again. its weak, dont be afraid to put force into it. basically i pried it apart until i could just slide it over the steering column. done. |

a locksmith can cut keys off the impression of the ignition cylinder without removing it, but they can also cut one off the cylinder if you bring it to them. when you stick a blank key in, it will pop up all the pins and they can judge by how far the pins stick up and cut it by code that way.
I just had to have a key cut that way for my GSXR. oh, and another fun story- the wheels on my old escort were stuck on the hubs when my dad and I were doing a brake job, and we couldn't get one of em off, so my dad just started fucking kicking it like really hard, putting his weight behind it. finally it came lose, but before it did, he kicked it so hard it broke the steering lock, and it never worked after that. I doubt that will work with your nissan though (but it does serve as a reminder as to why the ignition lock should never be the sole safeguard when towing on the front wheels). |
