350z 6spd tranny swap.

I was searching through but couldn't really find anything. I am currently doing a SR swap but since I haven drop the engine in yet, I was thinking of getting a 6 speed gearbox. Car will be under heavy abuse so, I don't think the S15 gearbox will last. does anyone know how hard it will be for the 350z 6spd swap? I dont need the speedo working as it is only a track car. I will be running 430-460whp when the car is done. any input would be great.

Mazworks was the closest at getting it done... They even offer the adapter plate for $475... It was on their site but I guess they pulled it off...

http://www.mazworx.com

This is a pic of their Z32/300ZX transmission adapter kit but you'll need the same amount of parts...

Adapter plate
Transmission mount
Driveshaft
Shifter adapter

But in the case of the Z33/350Z transmission you will also have to fabricate a different arm for clutch fork (I think on this one... Maybe someone else can verify this) and take into consideration that your effective final drive will be the equivalent of about a 4.6 if you had stock 240SX tranny gearing...

Stock 350Z final drive - 3.54
Stock 240SX final drive - 4.08

And it doesn't have a speed sensor on the trans... If you really want one (maybe for advanced ECU functions or boost control) you can get an S14/5 ABS pumpkin and many standalone ECUs can read and convert that signal...

The shifter will sit about 4-6 farther back and there are two possible solutions for that... A VQ40 (from some Nissan truck) shifter bracket might work or maybe you can buy one from VQSwap.com ... I'm not sure about the exact placement of the shifter using their adapter(they say 4" shorter than stock) since their position is based on using a 350Z motor as well... Here is what theirs looks like... I'm going to talk to them once my motor and trans are in...

When I spoke to Mazworks a couple of days ago about the bell housing adapter he also said that the Z33/350Z transmission bell housing doesn't fit in their machine so they would have to machine the bell housing by hand... He would charge about $400 just for that... He usually charges $150 when the machine does it...

So the total costs for this project are:
$500 - Z33/350Z transmission
$475 - Mazworks adapter plate
$400 - Machine bell housing
$200 - Steel driveshaft
$? - Fabricate transmission mount
$? - Fabricate clutch fork
$? - Fabricate for purchase shifter adapter

It will realistically cost between $1500-$2500 depending on your skills and hookups... But you can run a stock 240SX clutch and starter so that saves a little cash...

My plan is to run this transmission with a 200WHP NA KA24DE and an HLSD (stock 4.08 final drive)... And show everyone how efficient use of power through gearing can be an advantage over adding HP...

I'm usually the lowest HP car in my run groups... But my times aren't...

you can put the z32 trans in there. probably will handle any abuse you throw at it. google z32 trans in s14 or something. its still a 5 speed but ALOT stronger. I thought of doing the 6 speed swap, i still might. But i think the z32 trans is stronger than the z33. You just might have to have a custom belhousing made. Thats what i was thinking about doing.

Nope, Z33 is just as strong as Z32.

i was stating the z32 trans to be stronger than the trans for the ka/sr. I said above that i thought the z32 trans was stronger than the z33. thanks for the note sir...thats good to know. i know the gear ratio is different however. you will have to change out the gearing in the z33 trans, or your rear end if ya want a 1st gear.

This has been proven to be bullshit. There are Z33 guys running 4:08 gear rear ends just like our stock gearing and getting 35 mph in first gear with a 7500 rpm ecu reflash and 33 mph with a 7200 rpm reflash.

That basically means our cars will run to around 30 mph in first with the Z33 6 speed. and around 33mph with the J30 3:9 rear end gears.

Now if your running a SR than your easily going to pull 35-38mph in first due to the fact that the SR will spin right up to 7500 without breaking a sweat.

I am going to be running a 3:9 gear behind my 6 speed VQ35HR which has a stock redline of 7500 rpm.

I would basically say you have spoken without gathering all the facts.

here here. It's done with the rb guys matched with the z32 rear end for the top speed guys. They've gotten over 1000hp off the pairing.

If you only want a transmission that is stronger, just go with the Z32 kit...

But if you want to take advantage of gearing, then the Z33 project is where it's at...

Later I might build a super high revving SR with the Z33 trans and show how fast 300WHP can be...

thanks for the help. I just emailed Mazworx for more details. $1500-$2000 is pretty resonable comparing a S15 6spd conversion is almost $1000.

Koulimonster139, how much u want to let the gearbox out for???

I have one too, the earlier models had problems with 2nd-3rd gears, they're really not worth shit unless you have it rebuilt or warrantied. Mine was given to me for a case of beer.

wait,

what kind of beer?

have you looked into a gearset? like the OS Giken? a very popular upgrade in jp among drifters.

http://www.nengun.com/os-giken/close-gear-set

"catalogue"
http://www.justjap.com/OSGikenCatalogue.pdf

that will require less custom work i guess, and you won't even get to use that 6th gear unless you have some badass straightaway but if you're dead set on swapping the whole tranny, just putting some options out there.

Bud Light. 24pk.

I just got it figuring it would sell, the only people who want it live on the West Coast and don't understand why I want to charge more than $10 to ship it. So it's a boat anchor until someone locally decides to buy it. Looks pretty though sitting in the corner.

Usint the Os Giken kit is not as strong as going to the z32 or z33 trans. You still will have problems with the spline on the back of the transmission breaking. Just another thought.

projectrdm.. pm me how much you would want for the gearbox shipped to 84095. Dont think you would want me to trade ya a 24pack for it as beer here is bullshit 3.2% but we can work something out.
