Zenki HID Questions

I ordered a drop in HID kit. Was wondering what would make it look better and produce less glare/even light spread. Would a clear / non flutted lens help? Also Should I Paint the housing black? Any help appreciated.

reflectors suck
the zenki uses reflectors

those reflectors weren't intended for HID
reflectors that aren't intended for HID suck

therefore your idea sucks

if you care at all about proper lighting (actual visibility improvement, no glare for opposing drivers), you will do a more labor intensive retrofit of OEM or similar quality HID PROJECTOR

if you want to add a kewl entry to your mod list, have no money, or just want blue/green/purple headlights, get some cheapshit drop in kit

aint judging
just truthtellin

well, i'm judging a little bit

Yeah id have to agree with ^^^ i personally have the drop in hid kit and its really no use. The reflectors produce alot of glare and blinding oncoming traffic so i suggest using oem or do a retrofit projector in the housing.

The selfish, lazy auto enthusiast who does not care about other people's safety.

The DMV should offer a license specifically for "enthusiast" driver's to make sure they don't build them like ass.

How is eliminating the fresnels helping the problem? Just let more light all over the place.

The problem is in the reflector which is more of a U shape for the Halogen Bulb emission center. HID reflectors are more of a parabola shape. Putting a HID bulb in the halogen reflector puts the light center in the wrong place and throws off the beam dispersion and color.

What you need is to replace the back half with the reflector not the cover. Find a HID reflector that fits with a D2R mount. Screw putting a D2S bulb in a Halogen reflector.

my shit does not look like ass. what does tend to look like ass is certain projectors in zenki's. like a few pictured. i havent even driven my car yet, its still being built. dont get me wrong, il retrofit as soon as i can if im getting flashed a bunch. i love projectors and would like a smaller (tsx) projector in mine. i shouldnt have to say, high kelvin HID's from luxury cars are only approved because they come from the manufacturer, duh. seriously, i wanna hear someone tell me they ARENT blinded by their HIDS. i see plenty of pro-am drifters rock 13k kits and still drive on the streets, so what does that say. i dunno. but good to know i piss people off here, i like pissin people off sometimes

do me a favor, fruitcake.. dont complain about GLARE when you're driving a fucking 240SX. drive a miata, THEN you have the right to complain about glare... because every car even a 1971 dodge "rape" van will have blinding lights.

look at the facts, when you drive a lowered car you deal with the consequences:
- difficulty when entering steep driveways
- hitting bumpstops
- slowing / scraping over speed bumps
- glare from other vehicles

higher kelvin bulbs arent approved? they arent acceptable in ANY means. factory xenon is 4300k, thats the only bulb that is generally sold and accepted by REAL manufacturers (not including the million of 13zillion kelvin knockoff bulbs sold by charlie-chan).

i've said it before and will say it again: if you want better lighting, buy the german glass headlights. if you want better than that, buy 97-98 and have them retrofitted.

you guys are wasting time and money fucking around with these shitty 95-96 headlights. and to you shitty vendors who sell HID kits, you guys should know better because that shit is illegal. anyone who disagrees is a liar and i challenge them to show me how they are compliant.

The color in high end cars is what's called a color cut or color mod. There is a hair thin cut in the cut off baffle. About 1cm down from the cut off. This throws color onto the lenses and what you see.

The bulbs are still 4300K and the light on the ground is still white.

Lighting on drift cars is for show not night driving.

Clear covers and S2k projector retro fit will do good.

Bullshit. With the right shroud, they look mighty fine. Don't discourage anyone who might want to try just because YOU suck ass at it.

ok! forget what i said.. they don't look like ass! they look like a horrific boob job where the doctor caused the nipples to look googly-eyed! ..and i'll admit at one point, YES i thought about making a custom projector for the zenki headlights, but i would not use overly large projectors to make them! ..and on top of that paint the reflector black?! leave it as is.. i think i've seen ONE decently custom projector headlights! i'll search for it later.. but for now, i'm off to work!

Function over form, my man.

TSX projectors may be large, but they're some of the best projectors made. Super intense, super wide, and fairly easy to work with.

Getting a flash fomr a car with hid's because they are cresting over a hill, or jostling over a bump is one thing. But being blinded constantly by a car equip from the factory with hid's and projectors isn't true.

If whatever you're driving is lowered than of course you are going to be blinded by headlights being as how you are positioning yourself in their cutoff.

Because most cars cutoff goes about as high as a cars bumper~ so I don't see how they would be aimed up to your head.

Not to mention most lux cars have auto adjusting headlights.

All you would need to make it look factory is a nice factory projector shroud.

I personally like my Zenki headlights. Much better than any s13 or other popup light vehicle I've owned. Not as good as my Acura Legend was, but still nice.

whats the point of mentioning price?

if you talk about price, it means you obviously cannot afford something.

whats the point of having a baller paint job, baller wheels, baller turbo motor.. if you cant justify splurging on proper lighting (which if i may, has a lot to do with safety.)

for most people, german glass headlights with a good quality halogen bulb/relay setup is all you need.

for big ballers & shot callers, empty your bank account and go 97-98. at the very least you'll have nice GLASS projector headlights which can be easily upgraded with xenon projectors. at least your car wont look like cyclops when its all done.

its like having a nice suit and a cheap downtown special rolex watch.

Well Mike, only reason i did it was to get better lighting output. I figured, why bother with a kouki front end? If I did the front end conversion, light output still sucks without modifying the kouki headlights (better projectors and OEM hid setups). Mo money mo money mo money that the mil doesnt exactly just throw at me. I'd rather spend that money on other shit than on a chassis thats gonna end up in an okinawa junkyard in 2 more years.

PFC, 850cc and Turbo > Kouki front end.

we all spend money where we feel its necessary.

if your car is going to end up in a junkyard, thats all on you bro. i dont build up cars so they can end up in the trash bin - i build them up because i plan on keeping and enjoying them for the years to come.

if you're buying an ecu/turbo/injectors for a car that will end up in the gutter - you're quite possibly one of the least business savy people i've ever come across.

not that cars are investments by any means, but i personally wouldnt put 1 penny toward anything if i had the expectation of it being in the dumpster tomorrow.

its just like tires, you find people who think cheap tires are acceptable and then spend money on better brakes. what_the_fuck is the point? good tires is the best insurance you can put on any automobile: handling, braking, acceleration is all effected by your tires.

same applies to lighting. people will gladly spend $200 on cheap charlie-chan made clear lenses that eliminate any form of beam pattern your car SHOULD have, and then another hundred or two on yet again, a charlie-chan made HID kit which is not even designed to conform with any type of beam pattern. what do you get? $400 dollars + wasted time for a car that emits a blob of pretty purplish blue light. NICE. now they're safety and other peoples safety is at risk.

lets assume that most 240SX owners live at home, dont work.. and if they do, they work for minimum wage and daydream all day about how dope they want to make their rustbucket "one day." as broke as a person can be, theres no excuse for not researching and not saving and planning to do things THE RIGHT WAY.

ps: not criticizing you, at least your setup works and makes you happy. i dont think it looks right on the car, but thats just my opinion.

I forgot you havent been around to know my situation...I got stationed in Okinawa, Japan. I'm not planning on dropping $12k to ship a rusting 15 yr old S14 chassis back to the states. If I cant mail it back thru military shipping/USPS, its a risk that I wont be able to bring it back with me if I go back to the states. Engine and stuff, for the most part, I can break them down and mail them back in boxes. Thats why I said the chassis will end up in the junkyard, but not after I take what I can off it. The horrible Target Bodykit can go with it cuz I utterly fucking hate that too.

Anyways, I agree with what you pretty much said with lighting. Hell, thats the reason why I decided to go OEM TSX. It may not be the prettiest thing in the world since its a retrofit into the stock halogen housing but it works the way its intended. No fucked up cut offs, no charlie-chan made debased ghetto bulbs. All OEM TSX housing, ballast and bulbs. I learned that shit from you.
