Thinking about leaving Subaru and going Nissan

I have had a stage 2 WRX for a while now, it's a great all around car and it does nice in the harsh winters around here (PA) but everyone and their brother is getting Subarus and I am getting sick of hearing everyone go on and on about how they're the greatest cars ever made and how fast they are.

I've wanted a 240 since I was about 12-13 years old and I have recently gotten my career path set and am going to have some money to spend. Im a big fan of the Kouki and Strawberry Face 240s and am thinking about tackling one as a project. I'm shooting for 400whp, ive read up on the engines a good bit and was wondering what your guys thoughts are on the engine choice to get me there?

The RB25 engine is probably a good choice, and I would really love a 2JZ swap. I'm sure some of you hardcore nissan fans don't like that idea, but the 2JZ is a great motor from what i've read and seen, and it would leave me with room for expansion.

With either engine I should not need to get into internals right? Turbo, injectors, fuel supply, IC, intake, exhaust, and engine management should get me there... I think. Are there any guys out there who have gotten 400whp in their 240? and how have you done it? It would be nice to smoke all the kids around here who think their 250hp cars are the fastest shit to hit the streets.

Honestly, if you think alot of people are getting into wrx's you really want to avoid a 240sx. Alot of your questions are easily answered by searching on here and from you talking about smoking kids on the streets when you're a kid yourself just seems hypocritical at best. Do some research, learn alot, make a wise purchase, and don't do stupid shit on the streets.

Well I know 240's are everywhere but they're not big here in PA. Ive seen about 3 in the Pittsburgh area in the past 6 months, and i've seen about 8 WRX/STi's today alone. I don't street race too often, everybody buys fast cars to go fast and you can't tell me you don't do a quick pull here and there when your with your friends. I have researched but I was looking for some people who have actually had experience with the engines. I've read of some RB's blowing ringlands around 400whp after not much time, I haven't heard much of the 2JZ having problems with that output. It's going to be a project anyways....

No it sucks lol, i've done it before it's not easy. We have a beater Subaru in the family I could use. I will probably end up keeping my WRX and working on this over the next year or so anyways.

You say that you are sick of Subarus but your profile says that your car is totaled. Perhaps your Subaru got sick of you?

Lol. Anyways, I've said this before but I'll say it again: Your setup all depends on what YOU are planning to do with your car and how much money you have to spend. We can't make up your mind for you.

That being said, here's my .02, you are going to start a big debate with your 400 mark because it is within attainable grasp of the SR on mostly stock internals. I prefer the SR over the RB just because they are cheaper to buy and modify, easier to find, and are still tons of fun. I'm sure that a well built RB does great but for now, I'm sticking with the SR.

That was my old Nissan Maxima that I crushed a deer with haha, I haven't been on this forum for like a year. My WRX is still in nice condition.

best bang for your buck to make 400whp is a rb25 with a decent turbo..I did a 2jz swap in to my car over the winter, and dont get me wrong, I love it. but for the money an rb with like a 35r or similar is an AWESOME setup. (one of my buddies has it and it just works). A 2j swap is expensive, lots of custom stuff, and everything for a toyota seems to be harder to find and more expensive. With an RB becoming more common there is much for information out there about the swap.

Don't rule out KA-T. I had just shy of 400whp on a very streetable KA-T

Idk why everyone on these forums is such assholes sometimes. Maybe the 240 scene doesn't need people like you in it's community. I'm just trying to make a decision and keeping my eyes out for a 2nd gen to come along and asking some basic questions, but it's gonna come down to me figuring it out myself and working with the tuner anyways.

You've been here for a couple of months, you should know by now that this is Zilvia. Not many people here are nice and sympathetic.

Trading in a better car for a potential money pit sounds like a stupid plan don't you think. Keep a DD handy because dailying a 240 can get ugly with your wallet.

And all the answers you seek are a search away. And if you can't find a thread, we have the tech forum or the small question thread. Utilize the search and you won't have to complain about the assholes attacking you for your stupidity and lack of research.

Thats a big negative Ghost-Rider, the bandwagon is full. Find something else.

But in all honesty, if you have have the extra coin and you're not planning drifting or tracking the car (which you didnt say so I'm assuming you won't), why not get something thats better right off the bat. For as much as a decent Kouki S14 will run you, specially in the northeast, you might as well pick up a Z33 or a G35 coupe.

Fuck, you want something with balls, get a GTO or a G8 just to be different.

Uppipe, Turboback, EWG, BCS, and tune. It made 200whp and 225tq on a mustang dyno. It's not bad but the reliable HP limit on the 2.0L would be about 250whp on that dyno before i'd have to get into it and start upgrading internals.

I'm in an electrician apprenticeship, I'm working union and am getting a pretty nice raise every six months for the next 5 years so i've got a pretty nice path ahead of me, I really lucked out.

I know it won't be cheap, and I'm not getting rid of my Subaru I need an AWD car for the winter. This car wouldn't be on the road for a while, it will be a project. I know there are always little things along the way that you don't plan for that you end up needing. The WRX tranny won't hold past 250hp, so I will be in the same boat if I continue to build my car. The gearset you need to continue going with that is 4k alone, and STi transmissions run around 5k.

I was gonna suggest that if you have the money just fully build a KA to 400WHP.
With a built up wrx? I imagine his career is whatever his parents tell him to do.

Coming from the PA Area i do agree on the whole Subaru hype shit going around here..Also not my cup of tea, I've owned 3 Nissans since driving, 1 Z32 and 2 240's, Z32 got stolen due to our sad society. One of those 240's I jumped into purchasing one out of state and ended up selling it cause it was completely rusted out and the KA ended up blowing while going up a hill on route 145 lmao. But you learn as you go, and im now happier with my 2nd 240. I say drive what you wanna drive and do what you want to it, and enjoy it. Just watch out what you buy.
