need some help figuring this pilot bushing nightmare (pics)
hello there, i need some help figuring out how to make this right, i have a s13 which used to have a SOHC with a manual tranny, i got a hold of a healthier s14 motor. After doing all the s13 hybrid stuff to make the s14 motor to run in the s13. I come to find out that the tranny would not engage into any gear, so i pulled the tranny out and inspected the throwout bearing, made sure everything was tight and fine, put the tranny back, and nothing!! same problem again ....then one of my friends tells me that the motor i have comes from an auto s14 WTF!!!!
so i pulled the tranny out because i know that the pilot bearing is different and that i need to get the manual transmission bearing in there, but im not sure where the pilot bearing is or what is it. i have done research but everyone seem to know where the bushing is, i wasn't expecting to encounter this issue...this sucks!! i was able to pull what i think is automatic collar adapter?? or maybe have i pulled the pilot bearing already? here are some pics i pounded that spacer or adapter off with a socket and a mallet ![]() this is what it looks like when it was out, is this the pilot bearing? ![]() here is a pic of the crank without that collar, as u guys can see i tried to remove that spacer looking thing with the grease method. is the pilot bearing in there still? it looks like there may be another spacer then the pilot bearing all the way in there very tight to the crank? ![]() here is the pic of the tranny shaft and the manual pilot bearing ![]() any help, info, guidance is appreciated. I just need to know if the automatic pilot bearing still in there, and how did u pull it out cuz i broke the autozone tool. ![]() Last edited by dsastr_clan; 06-12-2012 at 03:19 AM.. Reason: pics |

The pilot bearing shouldnt ne on the input shaft... It should remain in the engine. Chances are that the auto bearing is larger and that your manual mission shaft is not engaging it.

The part you removed was the pilot bearing, so grease up the new one you have and install it into the end of the crank where the old one was. I used a deep socket and a hammer to put the new one in

OP - you were installed a used motor without doing any prep to it???? regardless of condition, changing the pilot bushing should be an automatic so, for shits and giggles... did you change the rear main seal? did you re-surface the flywheel and check to make sure it is still within spec? make sure you have manual flywheel bolts and not auto stuff? make sure you have manual trans hardware? torque everything to spec? not to mention that changing the front main seal, waterpump and thermostat would also be a good idea while the motor is out... |

Im starting to think that its that clutch disc with the OEM pp what the problem is. |

Friends have had issues with mix-and-matched clutch combos in the past If you have access to measuring tools - caliper, magnetic stand with indicator you could measure the clearances as per the FSM but a kit from one manufacturer is always preferable |
