SR **bad day**

So I put a down payment for an Sr'd 240 hatch.
I test drove it for a lap around his neighborhood and there was no ticking. Until I got it back home it started ticking. I turned the car off and now it doesnt turn on anymore. (engine seized) the only way I can turn it on now is if I roll start it.

So now I'm in this situation where I paid $2k and will be paying this guy $1,300 more later on for the pink slip. I messed up by not making a sale agreement, so he wont fuck me over. But now he has my money, and I have a car that doesnt run properly. He can also report the car stolen so I'm really paranoid of this crap.
I am trying to call the guy to tell him I want to return it but he does not pick up.

Any advice and/or suggestions are welcome.

It likely needs a starter lol... if it runs when bump started, the engine isn't seized

Check the battery. If a terminal is loose it will cause the starter not to turn over. motor is for sure not seized, like gretz said you wont be able to bump start it.

It's the starter..pretty easy fix. That should be the first thing that would come to mind if it starts by rolling start.

I parked the car at a friends house so i cant do anything with it -__-
But when It first didnt start like how it was supposed to, I was checking every wire that was connected to the positive side of the battery, and it didnt look like anything was loose. I tried jump starting it but nothing.. :/

That's what happens when your starter fails, replace that and you should be good again

Okay, I'm an idiot.. The ticking sound isnt the starter.. It's rod knock.
I know that the starter makes that ticking sound when you try to crank the engine but thats not the case.
The engine itself has ROD KNOCK -__- May that be the reason why it wont crank?

LoL rod knock don't tick it taps. Why don't you find someone who knows about cars and take it to them. Well prob too late from that but welcome to the wonderful world of used cars. If you don't own tools yet buy them because if you don't have money to pay someone to fix it your going to be doing it yourself. Over and over and over again till you get good at it or just give up. Then u can say F these old cars I needs me a new car.

that is not the reason why it wont crank. Sounds like you bought a shit car, you should try to listen to what people are saying on here they are trying to help.

If the car wont start when you turn the key, but it starts when you bump start it, you have an electrical problem. Better double check that the noise is rod knock, you are boned if it is.

it's more like why would you put a down payment on a 3300 dollar car, that won't pass smog, that you won't be able to get registered here, you will have to watch over your shoulder ANYTIME you drive it, because any half decent cop in your area is going to ask you to pop your hood WHEN you get pulled over. Not trying to flame man, but thats just a bad investment. Word of advice from some of us old timers, NEVER BUY A CAR WITH MODS. Sorry but this was your fault. enjoy your 3300 buck headache.

Sounds like the starter if you can push start it. Does the motor turn over but doesn't crank or does it not do anything at all?

The starting problem is most likely your starter. In fact, it might just be a dead solenoid. I had a dead solenoid for awhile, I just drove around with a small hammer in the car, when it wouldn't crank, I got out and gave it a good smack (the solenoid), got back in and it would start right up! Bought me a good week or two until I could afford a starter.

So you gave him $2k and you didnt atleast get a bill of sale stating that you still owe him$1.3k?!?! So what makes you think he wont flip over and say you never gave him the money? Honestly, I'd ask for a smog reciept since it is the SELLER's responsibility to smog the car prior to selling it.

I don't even understand why you would pay $3330 for a rod knocking piece of shit in the first place. Tick whatever the hell you got. $3300 will buy you a lot of lap dances and that's your priority at 18. Not stupid cars.

you cannot smog that car anyway, you still cannot transfer the title. in addition, how can you make sure he owns that car. maybe it was really a stolen vehicle.
