S14 SR swap done, one lil problem
Just put in an S14 Zenki SR in my 95. Biggest nigh mare i ever had ... whoever made nissan electrical schematics must have been stoned out of his mind. i had pins missing where they were shown to be in teh FSM and some collors were nto even close.
I got it running. its great but i got no tach. i know i have the right L/B wire from cluster to F3 plug. b/c i checked continuity. and i got it hooked up to Y/B wire at pin 7 at ECU. Why it still wont work beats me. Is there some kind of a trick to this? There is not a damn thing about S14 swap issues of this kind that searched was able to find. heck there is nothing about S14 swaps at all but tons of dead links and people yelling at each other to start seaching :/ |

thanks for the welcome.what are you refering to exactly? I did buy the whole harness...in fact i got the whole clip. i do not have any missing plugs reason why i had to check continuity between wires is simply b/c FSM was wrong and that was the only way to make sure they are what htey are suppose to be.

There is no point of paying someone 400$ for somethign that takes two hours to do IF diagrams are correct. If you're(not you you jsut you in general) the kind of person that is lazy, lacks ability, time , knowledge or simply does not want to deal with it or can afford ~2 weeks down time thats a great way . But how do you know whoever is modifying your harness did it right? Evrybody makes mistakes just because they do it constantly only increases that chance. If they did make a mistake it will be you who will have to figure out what that mistake is and if you are totaly oblivious to wtf was done to the harness you will spend just as much time if not more then doing it yourself.Thats my 1 cent out of the 2, i got more but i got shit to do.
Bottom line is i know that as long as all the schematics are correct i wired it up right, but apparently something isn't and thats why i am asking people here is it is a common problem. Its not my intention to make an asshole out of myself but anybody stating "o you shoudl have done this or that" is waste of their and my time....how does that help anyone? |

thats why im saying screw it and sending my harness out to be professionally done. my cars off the road until atleast april so i can afford the wait. i have so much other stuff goin on with my car, i just want to get it back so i can hook everything up and it will all work turn key. the cost isnt really an issue compared to the convience.

I would check the wire you connected it to.
Example; when you install an S13 SR in a S14 kouki, you have to connect the fuel to a purple and black wire and it was. We also checked continuity and it was there. I told my boy to go over the connections for 3 hours. Finally, he found out he connected it to the incorrect purple and black wire. Once he connected it to the correct one, the car was able to fire up. Carlos |

do you slaughter the cow everytime you need a cheeseburger.
McDonnalds could be called a specialist of the cheeseburger process. A wiring specialist could solve alot of issues for you.

I found a site where the guy outlines how to install an APEXI AVC-R into his S14. The thing is, he's from UK, so the S14 SR20DET engine is actually stock.
Since the AVC-R is a nice little boost controller from APEXI, it uses the RPM signal as well. So you need to wire that in as well. Here's the link: http://www.jull.co.uk/mods/avcr.html if you scroll all the way down to the bottom of that page, he points out that there 2 difference S14 SR ECU's out there. Check which one you have and you'll find the RPM signal. Obviously the total number of pins on each ECU differs. The top ECU lists pin #7 as the RPM signal. But the bottom ECU (S14a ECU) is quite a bit different. I'm not sure if that's gonna be helpful or not, but it's worth a try ![]() edit: I found another s14a SR ecu pinout (which happens to be the 97-98 Silvia ECU, or 93-98 European SR ECU and the 99-02 S15 ECU) http://www.plxdevices.com/ECUDatabas...0DET_99_02.pdf Last edited by Lith; 12-27-2006 at 09:11 PM.. |

^ For a S13 it is Pin 3. Its a yellow/red stripe wire.
Just a note that Pin #'s are not started from the end of the plug, they are the number Nissan assigned to the plugs pins. |
