swapping ka24de(s14) to my s13...question.

ok soooo...my sohc is nice but has some problems like i get loss of power when my rev's get to high usually in 5th gear...car bogs when i try to slide it around corners...so i decided to swap out the motor for a s14 dohc. But my friend told me that it is a obd2 motor and i have to do a lot of stuff to swap it out. i searched the forum and found nothing. can anyone let me know what is necessary for the swap other then the tranny, ecu, harness, motor. Like are the motor mounts the same? Help anyone?

not like a dohc will help TOO much on bogging when you slide.. haha

You dont have to do much to swap...

dont do any hybrid BS, just use all S14 stuff and s14 ecu and harness.

friend put in a 96 KA in his 89 s13, everyone told him to swap intake manifold, and all this hybrid BS... he kept it simple, used all s14 stuff and ran great, even better than my dohc

obd2 is just emissions diagnostics..... so as long as you just have the KA harness and ecu it will run.. I think the only problem you will have is the charcoal canister location on OBD2 KA's.. and a lot of extra unused wires... My friend just zip tied it somewhere in the engine bay

Motor mounts are the same but the wiring between S14 KA and S13 KA are completely different...

My advice is to use the S14 KA with S13 wiring harness, distributor, ECU, and external coil...

I am doing the exact same setup in my car right now... 90 S13 with a 95 KA and I documenting the entire swap... I am just rebuilding the S14 KA right now here...

http://www.zilvia.net/f//showthread.php?t=137862

It ended up being cheaper to buy the S13 KA parts than it was to make sure I had all the S14 KA parts plus have to spend money to have it rewired... The S14 and S13 harnesses are not interchangeable...

Would there be any problems putting a OBD2 engine in with an obd1 harness? Personally have never tried that one..

An engine is not OBD-II or OBD-I, the electronics are. The block/head doesn't care what you're using for engine control.
