WRX engine under my 240sx hood

yeah, that's how my car sounds. I've posted before things that I've gone through with my car and after all has been corrected (fuel pump hose, plugs, boost leaks, etc...) now my car sounds like a WRX.
Its not the coil packs, or MAF. The car does not feel too underpowered, but its definetely not running right and it idles fine.

If you've gone through this, please post your experience and corrected action. I would appreciate any help/ suggestions.

OH...car specs: Stock SR red top with FMIC

My bad...check the FSM.

One of your coilpacks or injectors.

Make your car sound like a suby but you don't loose too much power.

I've dealt with a similar problem on my sr a couple of times. 1)there was water/moisture in the spark plug wells 2)spark plug electrod melted off 3)bad coil pack.

I had a similar problem. Resulted in a bad connection between the coilpack and harness, where the two connect with the large plugs. Some of the wires on the engine harness side were not secure so the connection was bad (similar to bad coil like mentioned above).

Thanks for the replies guys...out of all the solutions am inclining towards the blown gasket theory. I beleive there's a slight gasket leak around the turbo so that could very well be the culprit. We checked the coil packs by taking off one by one. All seemed to affect the idle when taken off. I removed all spark plugs as well a few times and didn't see any moisture or weird things. ECU is good cuz my brother in law hooked it up to his SR and it worked fine. And I just hope is not the head gasket at all. this car hasn't even driven more than 50 miles combine since installing the engine. The motor is good cuz I pulled it myself from the car in japan, so I know the engine was in good running condition before removal. I think my next step is to replace the turbo manifold gasket. It's a cheapie one anyways. Will be getting metal type. Thanks again guys. +1 for all the inputs.

gasket material doesnt matter as much as making sure the downpipe is mounted to the trans, that not being hooked up kills those gaskets.

lol ive had this problem

if you swapped or installed new injectors...did you make sure you used new O-Rings?...and if yo did did you lube the rings enough to where when you installed then it didnt feel like it was rubbing?

trust me cause i did that and my cylinder 1 was flooded and on top of that it got worse to the point to where my car shut down.....
hope this help

check your coilpacks. but before you do that check for any leaks. mine was sounding nasty and ended up being a loose nut on the manifold to turbo connection.

I would say it's a clogged fuel injector!
while car is running, pull 1 injector electric plug off, if it doesn't make a difference in idle thats your cylinder with issue...

Remove injector and replace...

This is only a shot in the dark from what I have read...but I would bet 83% sure thats it... I will call cylinder #3 too! lol...

pm me when you check and lmk...hahaha...

Well you know your ecu is good but did you try another ecu on your car? There's always the possibility that its your harness.

When you look at the plugs, does any one look dramatically different than the others?

I beleive the problem is turbo manifold leak...if not, I will check "injector 3". LOL Nah, I should have an answer this weekend. I'm going to work on the gaskets and then check the injectors. I'll post my results when done.

I ended up replacing the turbo mani gasket (had a leak), but still didn't take the roughness away. I check all the injectors and discovered that when I pulled injector #1 the car would stay the same while the rest made a difference (ran worst). So you were right man...the only problem I have now is that the car still runs the same even after I replaced the injector. This is the weirdest thing ever...I mean, the car was running perfectly fine until my fuel pump hose took a plunge and now everything's going down hill.

To be honest and fair to everyone, I haven't attempted much after I replaced the injector...I figure I'd give it a few weeks. In the mean time, I've been working on the body in preparation for a paint job (will make new thread for this DIY Paint job). So yeah, I been having fun pounding the metal back to its original shape. LOL
But yeah, my car still doesn't run smooth, that's the bottom line.

Test for resistance on the injector plug to the corresponding ecu plug, and check for supply power on the other pin.

Then check spark.

If all that is good, its the injector/oring. Is it running rich/black smoke out of the tail pipe/check for burn on the spark plug.

John
