Stumped...Car turns over very slow, and wont start
Car is a 92 240sx se. Just put a new battery in it and looked over all grounds and wires, and checked fuses. The starter I noticed had junkyard writing on it. I have another off a running KA Im going to swap tomorow to see if thats the case, but I dont think it is due to the way it turns over, but it may be...
Symptom, you turn the key and the engine turns over VERY SLOW! Like slower then any engine with a fully charged batery should crank. Not near fast enough to actualy kick over and start. I also noticed the power wire that bolts to the starter got extremely hot when trying to start the car. Car has power, is getting fuel, spark, but I realy beleive the issue is that it will not turn over very quick, maybe once outa 20 times it will give me false hope and sputter, then slow down to barely any crank! I searched hi and low and couldnt find anything this specific to my problem. And I figured Id ask trusty Zilvia to see if anyone may have had this problem or can help before I start replacing everything under the hood! Thanks in advance! Brian

could be lack of oil at the crank/cams causing alot of stress...you check your oil?. i over tourqed cam towers too much once and experienced the same symptoms as you. but it didn't just happen out of nowhere, it was MY mistake.

OK, I replaced the starter... Same thing...
I cannot compression test it due to it cranking sooooo slow.... As far as I know, nothing internaly was messed with, but my next step will be pulling valve cover off and inspecting everything atop the head. ... Any other thoughts?

What about the ignition. I had a similar problem not too long ago and I changed my ignition switch and it worked fine...until my starter died and I had to replace that too but I knew that was on the way out already.

Make sure the ignition wire is making a good connection on the starter. The black wire with yellow stripe, they always tend to not be on there tight enough. Ignition switch is another possibility...

My guess is something in the rotating assembly is Screwed, Since the car just died on him before. The bearings in the motor is prob shot and your probably screwing the crank up every time you turn it over IF it is turning over that slow. If I was you, I would get a Flywheel tool and turn the motor over by hand as see how tight it is by hand vs by starter. If its really tight. Better start yanking the motor out.

Its auto!
Ok, after tryin about everything, I think posdrift240 is right... I was hoping this whole time it would be a simple fix, but Im pretty sure something is screwed in the bottom end! Tryed cranking by hand, and I couldnt get the thing to move! So off to source a new motor! Thanks for all the input!

it could not be a compression problem, if it was then the starter would just make the engine crank fast.....it is right u have an engine problem.....
