gt2540r????

im currently building my redtop SR and im deciding which turbo to go with. my friend mentioned the gt2540r and said it is very possible to achieve 400whp with this turbo. i done a lot of research on the gt28 and gt30 but both has its up and downs. i was curious about the gt2540. im looking to put down 400 to the wheels with my build. i will be daily driving the car but also using it for street runs has anyone had experience with this turbo? i tried to search through multiple links about it but havent found a good solid review about it.

I have a 0.64 A/R GT2876R(what this turbo has been named for many years now - GT2540R is the OLLLLDDDD naming scheme by Garrett). I like it. Spool is very comparable to a 2871R, power output is too.

Installation requires a little grinding of your motor mount for the big compressor - not a big deal(took me about 10-15 mins).

I never knew the 2540 was the same as a 2876, Makes sense. I was trying to figure that out a while back

For some reason Nissan guys seem stuck on Garrett part numbers from 5+ years ago.

hahaha thanks guys. ive been reading that the gt2871 will only peak about 350whp. im doing a full build with some JW S3 cams and upgraded valvetrain. im wanting to hit 400+ with my set up. if i can make this power along with the responsiveness with a gt2876 then i am more than willing to go with that turbo. if it means to go with a gt30 that would only put me back on funds that i could've saved on something else for the motor. GT30 + topmount manifold + downpipe = $$$$$

Power output between a 2871 and 2876 is probably going to be very similar. You're trading slightly more compressor efficiency(76 over 71) for slightly less turbine efficiency due to the lower shaft speed(71 over 76).

Bigger numbers aren't better, but they're a good bet if you pick up one used for a pretty good price(where I got mine).

sounds good. im also worried about boost creep and failure to hold boost on a internal wastegate at higher rpm and higher boost levels. ATP offers a 2876R special turbine housing with a 44mm external wastegated flange (only available for the .72AR). im trying to avoid those simple problems and would like to adjust boost easier. could this be a good option?

im getting head work done to the motor and going with possibly JWT s3 or s4 cams. i dont think the lag would be that bad. im overboring for 86.5mm pistons.
