So many people do it. There's good money in it. Thing is, you have to be GOOD at it. Too many people think buying junk cars(stupid cheap) and flipping them is good money. It's not. Nobody wants a junk car. You have to know your way around cars. Give them tune ups, clean the exterior/interior, detail it and make it look presentable. When I was in the market for a G20, I saw some of the shittiest condition ones I had ever seen. Trash all over the carpet, caked on brake dust on the wheels, exterior in piss poor shape, etc. If you can't detail a car yourself, pay someone to do it. There's plenty of shops/mobile shops that do this. Making a car look presentable can easily raise your profit another grand or two (depending on what the car is actually worth). Buy cars that are easy sales. People really want affordable, low maintenance, great-on-gas cars. There's TONS of 4-door, 4-cylinder cars to be had cheap. Auctions, craigslist, forums, etc. Stay away from salvage titled cars. That alone will force you to drop the price a couple hundred/thousand. Also, buy cars that are currently popular. 240's aren't the greatest investments (unless modified with GOOD parts). Once the money starts rolling in, you can start buying some of the more expensive cars and make a higher profit. This is obviously not for everybody. There's no "get rich quick" scheme in this. If you really want something, you have to work for it. As mentioned above, I know plenty of people who do this on the side while working full time jobs. Flipping just 2-3 cars a month will easily net you over $5-6,000 if done right. Hell, if you did one a month, that alone is extra cash you didn't have before. Yes, buying/flipping cars does require you to have some cash saved up and some free parking space, but if done properly, you can easily turn the $2-3,000 you "invested" into $20-30,000 in a couple of months. |

Musical Instructer
If you know how play a musical instrument, post up ads on craigslist, at a music store, tell a friend, etc Charge $50/ hr and teach basics so they come back for more T-Shirt Design Buy a silk screen machine, learn to use photo shop (free trail for 30 days at adobe.com) make a few simple designs before the trial ends sell your shirt to friends for like $7 or better yet offer your services to bands and charge a $50 set up fee and then do your own package deals. obviously you have to buy blank shirts in bulk from a company. you can start out by going to a swap meet buying 4 shirts for $10 This is how my buddies got started with there brands (Nefarious Clothing and Fatal Clothing) Photographer Learn how to use a Camera something simple like a niikon d90. make a profile and offer your services to friends preferably a wedding because there are tons of people there to make profit from Knitter There are books you can get at fabric stores along with youtube vids that instruct how to use these things called "patterns" that can be downloaded or bought from users on forums or blogs. Theres a site called Etsy.com that allows users to sell items they make at home. you just need a paypal account for transactions. It's super easy and ridiculous how my gf saw a simple wallet for $20 that she saw online. it was this see clear vinyl wallet that had a design inside it, but the design a piece of printed paper and the wallet was sewn together so its a very simple and cost effective design. you can also knit beanies' scarfs and what not and make profit from something that costs $1 to make wood/metal artist Basically make things out of wood and metal such as a simple birdhouse, work table, guitars (very simple i made one myself), fabricate things like roll cages for people here and other forums even though you don't own that type of vehicle. Mechanic do this only by word of mouth since to professionally do this i believe you need to be ASE certified or whatever. anyways you can make like $50 for something as simple as changing brakes or changing spark plugs. there are always people at work/ school who have problems with there own car. graphic artist There are small businesses that need to promote there own business and they need business cards. all you need is photoshop. ask what the customer wants for example for an autobody shop the owner would like a hotrod but would like you to put flames along its side and a dragon .......this would be super easy on photoshop and put flame like words of the autobody shops name with a black background and there is an oinstant card, find a independent printing press firm and get the cards made same can go for chinese shops that want you to design there menu and the ideas go for days What if you don't know how to do any of these? take a class at your community college about anything its cheap, fun, and you can hook-up with chicks! lol Oh and you can always post your ad for free on craigslist

We bought a 93 4 door honda civic for $1000 with missing lights, uneven wheels dirty interior.. pretty much someone who didnt take care of the car. I put about 2 weeks of work detailing it, fixing every electrical, i had blackies with OEM honda hubcaps and threw those on... Got the car sold for $2500... and thats not registering it or smogging it. Then a vert i sold for my dad, we picked it up for $1500, did the same, and sold it for $2400. Then he bought a 300ZX turbo from a junkyard with no front end and molded up interior for $900. Changed all that, spent about $300 for a paint job and sold the car for $3600.

When I was unemployed in the IT field, I offered a resume writing services via craigslist and made bomb ass resumes for people.
I offered different packaged deals for people and charged anywhere from $20 - $250. Yes my $250 resume packaged was sold more often then my lower end ones. Then I decided to use a resume I made and inputed my own info in it and I landed a nice job :P |

Thanks CrimsonRockett. I bought a Saturn for $350, detailed it, fixed some body damage and advertised it for $1200. 40 MPG.. great ride. Ended up ditching it for about what I had in it after 6 months with no buyers. That might have been a bad time though - was during Cash 4 Clunkers so all the bottom feeders were busy getting cars from Obama. The market might be better now. Hmmm...

Make stickers, they can be done for as little as a dollar per sticker and then turn around and sell them to fanboys for like $5.
Or buy and flip cars. I've known people that have just sat on CL and forums all day waiting for deals to come up. They would buy cars with minor issues and fix them on the cheap and then sell or trade them for Profit. A buddy of mine just picked up an SR-ed S13 for 1300 with a blow turbo, swapped in another turbo and could sell it for 3k in a day if he wanted. The money is there, you just have to be willing to put the work in. |

I used to sell energy drinks in high school to all the kids. Whoever drank them were the "cool kids" sorta. Got to know alot of people, and also bought and sold ipods and other electronics. Kids also need their drug money! Drive friends around who dont have cars for at least 5 bucks. You usually end up making profit, gain something to do as well.

You can find and buy a honda civic for $1K from a shop or anyone who came up on a new car and jst tryin to get rid of it, and you can turn around and sell it for more 2x as much to some kid whose getting his first car... same with 240sx. And you gotta know how to talk down the price for more profit.

To the people who flip cars what do you tell the buyer when they ask why you are selling? Because if I heard the owner telling me that he bought it to flip it, I know the price has been raised, so I could more than likely find one thats cheaper.

I did a lot of my selling on boards where I'd been a member for a long time, and I was generally pretty honest about it. Other times I would actually keep the cars for a few months (dealer plate, so no care), and then I would just say "bored with it", which was at least half true. After awhile, people just start to realize that you're flipping, but as long as you haven't sold POS cars and pissed anyone off, and if your prices are fair, no one cares. Actually, LOL, check this out. This is the FIRST car I ever flipped. MX-6 that I bought for $300 and sold for $1k on eBay to some guy. Apparently I listed it here: http://zilvia.net/f/cars-sale/77631-...5spd-ebay.html To those who know my NICO username, search my Classifieds threads with no date limit. You'll see a period where I moved quite a few cars (only a fraction of what was on Craigslist). Never had one complaint. I was openly bragging about having gotten stuff dirt cheap in some threads, but as long as my end price was reasonable, no one gave a shit.

^^ True stuff. I sold almost every car I owned via local car enthusiast forums. Flipping cars is not a bad thing. I never intended to rip anyone off, and didn't. I was just good at finding under priced cars and I was willing to put in the labor to turn a profit. Some cars just need to get cleaned up really, others I did as much as replacing the cylinder head and overhauling the entire motor.
FYI- Anyone trying to flip cars around the Ozarks, 4 cylinder, 4 wheel drive trucks sell like hotcakes in Springfield. People want small efficient trucks. That or rednecks are becoming broke but still want a damn pick-up.

Dealerships who where hurting and would have gladly knocked off 4k on the sticker suddenly where demanding full retail, and a trade in or private sale that would have netted you 3k, you now got 4-4.5k..... ok, so you lost over $2,000 to get the "Deal of a life time" ![]() |

Exactly. Buy a Jeep 4x4 with a blown motor in august for pennies, swap the motor for a 4.0 from your local junk yard (LKQ here charges $150), and in a month or two (snow) sell it for 3-4k. Civics, 240s, most sports cars if they are presentable can get their prices jacked up solid. A coworker paid 12k for a '88 Corvette with "only 98k miles" cause it looked mint... he then had to put about 3k into it cause it had not moved from the previous owners garage in 3 years. ![]() A friend also scored a S13 coupe, single cam, blown with Ksports, Work-knock offs and some other nice bits for $1,100 once we paid for the trailer. While he is building for him self, we could have easily parted it out for more then $1,100 or tossed in a spare KA24DE we had laying around and sold it for 3-4k around here. |

its is very possible if you know where to look. bought this coupe for 400, blown single cam, needed a Manual swap for my vert, and full swaps go for 400-500 anyway removed all manual parts, sold the trunk lid for 50, sold the pop ups for 30, harness for 50, uh trying to think of everything. kept the doors for the vert (80 lbs lighter woo) sold the awful chrome 15' that were on it to some honda kid for 100 w/ tires. the dash and all interior panels to someone for 200. rear lights for 40 fenders for 40 all the seats for 100 sold the bare shell for 100. all were sold at reasonable prices. buyers were happy, they knew i bought the car just to part it out but they got parts they needed at decent prices. if i HAD sold the tranny and everything needed for the swap out of it i could have easily trippled my investment. as is i doubled it ![]() heres the rims from my first story, dont have any pics from after i cleaned em up ![]() and heres the car when i bought it ![]() as i sold it, minus the rims. drove on it for a few months too ![]() ![]() |

I have noticed a serious change as far as used car pricing goes. This reflects the times. I can see why people want a reliable, economic, 4x4.
Flipping cars is becoming more difficult, I have only sold two cars this last year. (One was a D-50 4x4, took one day to sell after I fixed it.) I'm just doing it when I can find a good deal, not really looking.

LOL Right now I have coupe(s13) that is getting a five speed swap. I still need some parts. I will either keep it, or it sell with the intentions of getting a hardbody or Toyota pick-up.
Honestly I haven't sold many cars because of a lack of funds, for whatever reason I couldn't sell the coupe this summer. I should be working two jobs by January, I hope to get it done soon after.

I DJ on the side on top of my joband i'm still in school. Invested about 1500 in equipment (including my laptop) and have been doing it for about 3 years. I've made easily over $30,000 over the past 3 years averaging a little over $200 a weekend (usually it's more than that but some weekends i don't spin).
Great hobby and great source of extra income. Just have to know how to mix well and be able to read a crowd to play what they wanna hear. Funny thing is i've been doing it this long and i'm just now getting around to making business cards. I know a lot of people and they really like how I dj so i'm always getting gigs from just word of mouth.

You can go to school and they will pay you. I got $2,000 extra spending money every quarter deposited into my checking account in college plus free tuition when I maintained a 3.0 to 3.5 gpa. I got book money, dorm money, pell grants, cal grants and fin-aid which was all free and I got a 4 year degree at a Calstate.
Used the money to buy my first car and tons of parts. All 100% free and legal. Hardly go to classes, I was a smart ass -not so much in intelligence but always participated and asked lots of questions. My cumulative GPA at graduation was 3.67. Everyone was proud and I don't Owe any loans or have to repay back Nada~. Ultimate hustle in my opinion knowledge is power? Nah, Knowledge is $$$$ money $$$$ |
