Take up a lawnmower/rake/blower/shovel (or any combination of the 4) and start knocking on doors.

usually if they dont require a reciept, they give you the lowest sale price on that item. thats what we did at Sport Chalet for returns. and switching price tags will just get you arrested or a fat ticket. we used to catch people doing that all the time. we even gave some gue a $300 ticket for stealing a ping pong ball.

Of course, you need capital.

You can make quite a bit in a very short amount of time, but you're entirely beholden to what's available in your area. Some times you'll see five cars in a week that you could each clear a bunch on, and then not see anything seriously mispriced for a month.
the problem with this is most people today think their car is gold and price it as such. ive found only a few good deals in the last 2 years and im a car dealer

Then youre not looking in the right places, your standards are too high, or you arent willing to put in a little work to get a non-running car back up to par. To say there are no good car deals right now is insane- NOBODY has money, so EVERYONE is dumping their cars for 2/3 of its value.

I bought my 00 Neon for $300, and my buddy recently picked up a '98 Forester w/ a blown head gasket for $250. There are MANY MANY deals to be had out there, you just gotta know where to look.

I've always wanted to do this but too lazy, you can check out the free postings on Craigslist and see if there's anything on there that can be sold quickly for money. I once saw a nice clean civic hatchback shell for free on there, not sure if it was legit or someone trying to put another guy's car for free and have someone tow it away but theres probably other stuff that you can get to make profit.

I once saw some 240 coupe tail lights for free once too but it was too far to get. I guess it doesn't hurt to browse through to see what they have to offer..could be an easy way to gain money for those that have the time.

I have bought and sold cars quite a bit. I would try to find cars for 400$-1000$, then I would do a lot of regular maintenance; oil change, belts, wipers, bulbs, tranny flush. I would also fix any other small problems the vehicle might have. Then flip it for a few hundred dollars profit. Worked great for me, but this one you need some start up funds. For some reason, maybe luck, I have always had a knack for finding under priced cars.

Problem is there if you sell more then six cars in more year (in MO) you have to get a dealers license, but that's only a test and 100$.

yes, I agree i think the most legit way is to offer service to people who need them. Ie. offer car washes or landscape service to your elder neighbors, get to know business people and have them call you when they need an extra hand. Buy and resell items if you know the market well and you can take the risk. Regardless, you need skills to do things and you need a plan. How to build up your skill and market yourself. hanging out with friends or play video games all day will not lead to anywhere.

I don't mean to offend, but you're doing it wrong.

I had a license for three years and I made out pretty well, probably ~$60k or thereabouts in aggregate, and then I also had a day job.

I bought and flipped as-is only, I never fixed up anything. If I couldn't make at least $1k on a car through straight arbitrage, I didn't buy it. Find a few models that you can price really well and focus on those. For me it was 240's, Miatas, SW20's, F-bodies, and diesel Mercedes (W126 and W124 mostly). Keep a lot of cash on hand so you can buy shit when the bank is closed, and have access to a flatbed truck and lots of parking spaces.

I don't do it anymore because my office/MBA time constraints don't allow it. Graduating in May though, and putting together investors to work on another idea that I derived from all this.

What state is your license in? What kind of license is it?

1. Unemployment - i worked long enough and made enough money to take home 900/ month
2. Flipping cars - im my cousins personal mechanic when checking out a car, i usually get $200-$300 depending how much the car was sold. I dont do nothing to the car, just to check it out if its good for re-sale
3. Mechanic - Doing lil tune up for family/ friends, i usually make $50-$60 changing brakes and oil in 1 day with a few people.
