I was looking at some websites on newb kits for it and they are pretty cheap, but all it looks like you need is a 5 gallon bucket, lid with some grommets, a thermometer, and a bottling tool. the supplies to brew was suprisingly cheap too. I think I might try this, I will prob have to wait till after holidays though

Last night:
Mad Elf tap (still not very good)
Guiness Foeingn Export (bottle, and tastey...the best Guiness offering)
Ommegan Witte (nice and dry, yummy)

(yes I went backwards haha.)

Tonight:
Stegmaier Winter Warmer (Good...nice and spicy, and cheap. 23 bucks for a cse of 7% beer)
Weyerbacher Merry Monks (my favorite, always nice)
Homemade Merlot (good and dry tummy yummy)

Thankfully I live in the 'beer capital/zone' of the USA, the greater Philly/NYC area. I find it funny that I find some beers on tap, that many dont' even have in their home markets hehe. However their are some beers (New Glarus for example) that I wish we got. Damn you PLCB!

it's not that hard, a little time consuming but not bad. If you go to little shops ask somebody they know their stuff and can guide you in the right direction. i learned how to brew when i was like 11 with my pops. i hated the taste. now.. not so much! lol Good Luck Man!!

Sadly I live in a small town with very little variety. I've tried other things such as Ten Fidy, Hex, Hobgoblin, and other sorts. Probably post the little collection soon but today, I've gone and grabbed an Arrogant Bastard and the Dogfish Jiahu.

You should try the double bastard and lucky bastard. The lucky bastard is a combination of Arrogant bastard, double bastard and oaked arrogant bastard. It's very interesting.
The Goose Island Rare is out. It's aged in 23 year-old bourbon casques for 3 years. I have a guy who can hook me up with a case of it.Yes!

Haven't had anything really great lately. Right now in my fridge I have Abita Restoration Pale Ale and Shiner Cheer. The Abita is dry and somewhat hoppy and the Shiner tastes peachy and sweet.

Brewing is so much fun, honestly once you get started you will be hooked. Also the best beer you ever taste will be the stuff you brew yourself. There is so much you can do that you can't find in any stores.

I picked up some Magic Hat's recently.

Winterland | Magic Hat Brewing Company
Which contains:
#9 | Magic Hat Brewing Company
Encore | Magic Hat Brewing Company
Howl | Magic Hat Brewing Company
Winter '10 | Magic Hat Brewing Company

The #9 is good as is the IPA. I find a lot of IPA's over hopped to the point of astringent bitterness. This is a good balance if a little light.

not my pics but i had this tonight which was really good, but may be hard to find since the batch was made in june-july and they only sent 4000 cases out nationally.

Dogfish Head Miles Davis' Bitches Brew. which was excellent, very good stout with a smooth yet somewhat earthy after taste from the honey and gesho root.

and also had a

Sam Adams Chocolate Bock which was really smooth, with a real nice chocolaty taste to it.

I tried this the other day and i wasn't feelin it. Maybe it's just cause I'm not a big fan of chocolate though...

Make sure the buckets are food grade. The Alcohol will leach out dyes and other crap from industrial/commercial buckets.

Be very careful when cleaning them too as any scratches with breed bacteria. No scotchbrites or other abrasive pads. Eventually you will want to replace them with glass carboys.

Been another good week, drank a bunch of things but the standouts

Lindemans Faro Lambic
This was great! Not super sweet, not overly sour...just a nice beer by them that I'd strongly suggest

Stone Smoked Porter
Always a good beer to enjoy. Had this Christmas day with some friends. Always a nice one!

Williamsburg Aleworkds - Springhouse Saison Ale
This was actually a nice tasting beer, not really 'european' style in regard to Saisons, but good for an American offering

Ithica - Quad Anniversary 12
Ahhh, another nice one. Dark fruits and not overly booze. Beware though it sneaks up on ya!

And my favorite of the past week:

Nebraska Brewing - Fat Head Barley Wine (aged in Whiskey barrels)

WOW. THis beer is HUUUGE. Big time whiskey flavor, awesome english style barleywine. VERY boozy yet, so I may buy another to sit for a year or 2 to see if it cools off...however I'm not sure if I could wait on this it's so good.

Most certainly! 'Over sanitation' is key with beer. Certainly wine and mead and similar type things require clean stuff as well, but nearly to the degree of beer.

However do remember that some bacteria is ok I love my funky beers!

Gonna bump this up a little bit. This is the collection so far since turning 21 on October 16.

From left to right.

Yuengling Traditional Lager
Yuengling Black & Tan
Stella Artois
Hoegaarden
Scarecrow
Hobgoblin
Dogfish Head Chateau Jiahu x2 (I loved it that much)
Dogfish Head Fort
Dogfish Head Pangaea
Dogfish Head Obrama
Dogfish Head 120 IPA x2
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA x2 and one in the fridge right now ^.^
Dogfish Head Midas Touch
Dogfish Head Chicory Stout
Oskar Blues: Old Chub, Dales Pale Ale, and Ten Fidy <fucking amazing
Old Rasputin
Arrogant Bastard Ale
Magic Hat Hex
Sam Adams Traditional, Cherry Wheat, and Cranberry Lambic
Rogue Double Dead Guy Ale

I also drink a lot of Yuengling Traditional Lager, enjoy the occasional other brews from Yuengling and happen to like Amber Bock. The Ace Joker cider was pretty good as far as ciders go.

Imperial Stout trooper, local CT brew. It is a Russian Imperial Stout
It used to have a storm Trooper on it but they had to disguise it after George Lucas complained.

Ill throw in on this one. I cant believe I've never been in the off topic chat section!

From left to right we have a great divide Espresso Oak Aged Yeti(bottled in 2005 so I'm getting ready to crack it soon, Kwak, Dogfish 120(18% abv bottling), Samichlaus (the small and big bottle), stone/brewdog/cambridge juxtaposition black pilsner, stone imperial russian stout(my favorite IRS), stone old guardian, two flying dog brews that I havent had yet, and last but not least Tripel Karmeliet.

Ill pretty much drink anything under the sun in the microbrew/craft brew world. but if im out to just drink beer for the effect ill usually choose stella, or when its cold outside Spaten Optimator. When Sam Adams Octoberfest is available I drink as much as I can!

What's in my fridge now:

Stone Vertical Epic 10.10.10
Stone Vertical Epic 07.07.07
La Trappe Quadruppel
St Bernardus Abt 12
Great Divide Yeti
Stone Russian Imperial Stout (bottled in 2008)
Sierra Nevada Fritz & Ken Stout
Berkshire Brewing Coffeehouse Porter
Stone Kona Coffee Coconut Macadamia Nut Porter (2)
Russian River Pliny the Elder
Russian River Consecration

Going to try the Consecration tonight. A homie of mine is swinging by soon, and he's probably going to pick up a four pack of Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA.

Fixed.

Had my Russian River Consecration. It's very good. It reminds me of a red wine, crossed with a white wine, with a more bready finish.

Also had a Sierra Nevada Torpedo and I'm not a fan.
