SR 'Tucked' Valve Cover Plumbing

Hello gentlemen,
Can anybody please tell me if this setup would work for venting the valve cover?

I already measured and there is enough vertical room between the coil pack and the coil pack cover. It is mainly a matter of finding the right fittings and not ruining the valve cover. I do not know if the ports can only be in certain places or if anywhere above the baffling should work.

Cheers.

I can understand the want to have it look clean, but I think in the end it will make it look busy/jumbled/messy having all that 'stuff' going on on the back of the valve cover...not to mention the odd fitting placement around the coilpacks. I'll go snap some -8 fittings on the VC for you to show you how it will be in the way...

Ok the issues that present themselves are crazy.

I took these pictures with a -6 fitting (as I didn't have any 90* -8) and you can see that the fitting itself, does not even fit in the valve cover 'hole'. If you were to weld a fitting into the vc, you loose another 1/4" or so...making it even worse...With a -8 you'd totally be screwed

Fitting doesn't fit in nice:

Fitting with a welded bung is out further

-8 FItting (even straight) is huge

Atop of that, I have spark plugs...which allows MUCH more room than coilpacks...and it still doesn't fit. Not to mention how are you going to fit all that hose down in there (and a pcv valve)

Good luck if you make it work, beers for me if it doesn't.

The problem I see is actually getting a drill and a tap in there. The idea is nice, but pulling it off is going to be complicated.

Ya know, great point. I didn't even consider that. How on earth is anyone going to be able to weld a bung on there without cutting the bottom of the VC out all together...

Again, I don't see anyway to make it work, as a proper fitting will not fit at all, and as JR_SS pointed out, how can you really even get a fitting in there without extensive cutting...

Yea I don't mind the AN lines (although the fade from green thing isn't to my taste) either. I think he wants to hide them in the valley and then maybe even put a cover on it...

This is the fitting I was planning to use.

However, as jr_ss mentioned, I do not trust myself with the tapping part, and I would probably just end up ruining the cover.

My main goal is to eliminate the PCV to better vent the intake side of the cover, and also to not have the bay cluttered with hoses.
Here is my next idea. Is it stupid?

I wouldn't drill and tap it, I would have a female o-ring boss welded in. You would need to rear mount it from the backside if possible... then weld it on the front side. You would obviously need to remove the baffle to get in there. Then you can use a 90 o-ring fitting. XRP has a crap ton of o-ring fittings, even low profile as seen below:

The nice thing about the o-ring fittings is that you do not need any tape and the seat is adjustable. So as long as there is clearance to spin the fitting around a couple times to grab thread, then you can tighten the nut down to seat the o-ring.

He'd have an issue turning those in...there really isn't much height there.

Check out the 'sr valvecover thread' that was recently bumped in tech...it should do the trick for you.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooh fitting porn I like the low profile setup of those things! Only thing about o-ring boss style fittings is that most overtighten them...we see that all the time at the truck shop.

This is a ridiculous idea. I like it alot, but can't foresee it being feasible.

If your goal is to hide the vent lines, or place them in a better spot for the "wow" factor, or just to be different, don't move the vent lines to cover up the coilpacks. That's just not a good idea at all. Those things need as much air as possible to dissipate heat. A vent line made of whatever material, sucking through hot vaporized motor oil doesn't help the situation.

It is definitely possible to get vent lines inside the coilpack valley, but I would go with an aluminum A/N weld-on fitting. Earl's 997112 Aluminum -12AN Male Weld Fitting - Haloway Express Merchandise Center
But, just as Codyace pointed out, the size/manufacturer of the adapter will dictate the size of the weld-on A/N fitting. So, I'm thinking small, possibly -3 or -4.

At those sizes, you would probably benefit from 2 (or 3) vent holes feeding into one hose. I have no idea how this would affect your motor, so in my mind, this could work, but I probably just sent some old Japanese Nissan engineer spinning in his grave.

Look at dressing up the motor by welding A/N fittings to the current vent holes and get stainless steel lines.

you've got a chinaman's chance in hell that this is going to work

anyone who's welded a valve cover (i have), will tell you how fucking impossible it is to do what you are trying to do. welding with clearance is possible, this tight-quarters bullshit makes it impossible.

the orb boss that broadfield suggested will probably melt at diff temp than the valve cover - mating those two together without one warping is going to be impossible.

also, your routing diagram doesnt look right

For the amount of trouble, would it not be easier just to fab up a s13.4 VC and run short lines of AN ?

I'm pretty sure there is no point to connecting the cover to the intake and venting the valve cover. With the vent you will eliminate the vacuum and then you will just suck air through the vent and into the intake and suck in a bunch of un-metered air...

Why not weld or tap, or use the things broadfield suggested and go out the VERY back of the valve cover?
