Head gasket from apexi out of stock
Alright so I've been ordering parts like a mad man. Got up to the plate with the head gasket was going to hit a homer and get a apexi 86mm x 1.1mm...wrong so far I've struck out everywhere I've went to order one from. There's also no ETA on when there will be more in stock. So my question is who the hell else has basically a stock apexi gasket still in stock! Don't wanna mess with any of my compression ratios and don't want a pos gasket that will go out on me in 6 months to a year.
Thanks everyone for your comments and advice once again! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Took me 47 seconds to come up with this http://www.frsport.com/Cosworth-2000...ck_p_8905.html

A stock gastet to my understanding is 1.1mm thick. Stock bore is 86mm. So a 87x1.1 is fine. Now if you have surfaced the head and/or block you might want a slightly thicker gasket to counter your now shorter deck night and as to not throw off your mechanical timing components.

Sorry man. I've always gone by spec for everything I've ever worked on and I don't have a service manual for this engine that will show me what something is down to the thousands so if it's not correct I get worried and I ask to many questions...Sooo if the engine bore is a 86mm i should need a 86mm bore gasket if I didn't deck the head or block then "stock" gasket should be a 1.1mm well apexi has a 86mm X 1.1 mm gasket but it's not in stock or has an eta on when it will be

Most oem head gaskets run 1mm bigger than the factory bore. Using a 87mm gasket on a 86mm bore is fine and completely normal. It's only .5mm larger on each side of the bore. You just don't want one smaller then the bore.

I've never even seen an 86mm HG. IS it a myth? If you did order one, what if they sent you 85.97mm by manufacturing flaw? How long do you think the .03mm overhang will last in there? And do you think it will stop there at .03 burning off? Probably a little more will burn off than that, leaving you with 86.01+mm of headgasket anyways.
Better just to use no gasket at all. Seal it with duct tape and permatex. Or the zilvia special, weld that shit. Everybody here loves to weld their shit together. "gaskets are for chumps" they said. its just cause "they don't make a zip tie big enough for that" |

Serious as a heart attack man, apexi websites got them but not in stock. So when I go to order somethings for a std 86mm bore I figured hey what the hell 86mm must be correct but only stock is 87mm. Thickness I understand perfect as far as not getting the same size gasket as bore diameter just seemed fishy. I'm thinking jb weld and fucking rtv mixture will be prime for race wars... |

Seriously, if you don't understand why a 87mm gasket is good to go on your stock bore then please put the tools down for now...
I would just use a cardboard cutout of exactly 86mm ( good luck ) and slap some hylomar on it. You'll be all set...

Use one of the ones I gave you a link to or order a apexi 8711 head gasket. Or 8708 if you want a little extra compression. and be done with it.

Also, wouldnt that 87mm gasket bore become smaller after being compressed with 80 foot pounds of torque? Bringing it closer to the bore size of the cylinders themselves?

Holy shit you guys are overthinking this. Just buy a tomei 1.2mm thick, 87mm bore gasket. Its a piece of metal that goes between two other pieces of metal, not rocket science.
