![]() Ok guys,
So I've searched through a lot of people's build threads and I need some advice on building a motor for my track car. I, like many other people that beat on their engines wondered what would keep an engine reliable under high amounts of stress. I learned that SRs need to be getting plenty of oil and need to be cool. Now, I need to know what else I can do to build the perfect reliable motor for my drift car. I was considering a complete build from top to bottom including all forged stuff in the block but is this neccesary? I've heard of people making 400+ hp with the SR on stock blocks and thats really the in the range that I'm looking for about 375-410 hp. When it come to getting inside a motor I'm completely a noob so go easy on me. So I've been told by some people that forged internals aren't going to last as long as stock internals but aren't they stronger? Is this the case with a built head but not the block or just a theory? I basically want to build a motor for my s13 track car (drift). I would like it to have somewhere around the 400hp range with good low-end power and have no problem being beat on. I've been thinking of dry sump, oil cooler, v-mount and anything i can to cool it, tuning of course is one of the most important things. I already have a gt28r turbo, megan turbo manifold, elbow and dp I'm basically just looking for advice on the block, stock or forged rebuild??? if forged, what brand? If stock, should anything in the block be aftermarket? Thanks for hangin in there guys. ![]()

get a gt3071r or 76r, those seem to be really good for your power range.
I would highly suggest an electric water pump, keep stock compression and go with new bearings and seals throughout, blue print the motor. You should not have any problem as long as your supporting modifications are there.

As far as your question goes, it really comes down to howe much money you want to invest. If money is no object then by all means build up the bottom end. Cryo-treat the entire bottom end, port/polish the head, upgrade all your head components to handle higher boost levels (which you will need to make 400 hp with a GT28). Get an ample supply of guages to monitor your investment.Because all it takes is a clogged or failed oil pump and your work is toast. If money is a factor, then just swap in the SR, get the cooling stuff installed you already mentioned, and TUNE IT PROPERLY. Then just enjoy it until it dies, and get another.

with that turbo upgrade (gt3071r or 76r), head work(port and polish, and all that jazz), and a good tune you will be pumping out a lot of WHPs... more then what you are expecting... good luck with the build!!
