I should be getting the second replacements soon too, I have the black ones and the origonal goldish ones.

Goldish ones clunked, black ones don't rotate. Hopefully third times the charm.

What is everyone doing with their old "busted" mounts? Trash? Return? I need a couple sets to try an idea out.... PM me if interested in contributing.

my mounts came in yesterday. Its not the whole top mount, just the pillowball part that connects to the strut on one end, and the camber plate on the other.... I"ll put it in this weekend. Hopefully it works out for me. ::crosses fingers::

installed the new mounts last nite.....
I still have have the spring catching on the perch locks ( this only occurs during sharp turns like such as making a left turn at a light)... but i have no more memory steer. BTW i also lubed the pillow mount with some grease idk if that helped a bit.

Installed mine last night. Everything seems to be moving smoother. Bit easier to adjust height. I too lubricated the pillowballs before I put them in. Lets see how it holds up.

some documentation pics:

old mounts:

new mounts:

compare the two (new left, old right):

The top circle area where the pillowball mounts to appears redesigned. Mount is also now slightly thicker.

I just got a pair of the replacement bearings. How freely are they supposed to move? The OE strut tower mounts have almost no friction, but I can't move my new bearings at all by hand.

I was wondering the same thing... couldn't really turn the new or old ones by hand. New ones seem to work better once installed tho...

I have it just tight enough that I can't spin the spring with my hand, and then a turn more.

I tried to do it with a shitty elec impact gun, but it wound up just spinning the strut, not actually tightening it. I don't think it needs much.

I did it by hand - tightened it till the point where the strut spun, then put a wrench on the top perch to hold it, and then tighten it maybe 1/4 - 1/2 turn more.

Finally got my mounts on Monday. Installed them and they haven't had the spring binding since. I greased all the spring contacts but left the ball joint alone. Will see how it holds up. Finally, after 3 months, the problem may be gone.

Is there any way to take off the top nut off with out using an impact gun?

I used a breaker bar, but the pillow ball just rotates with the top nut.

Any suggestions? I tried reading Munch's post, but it didn't really help

use a wrench to grab the top collar above the spring. Wedge it against your chassis or hold it. then use the breaker bar up top. Comes open pretty easily.

Didn't read through all 14 pages of this thread, but has anyone tried break-in processes for their pillowball/heim joints? Not sure if the Stance joints are PTFE lined or not but...

Its almost a necessity for PTFE/Teflon lined heim joints, otherwise they stick and never really function correctly.
On all our full heim jointed racecars (no bushings) we always break in every rod-end by spinning it up and lubing it in a mill, though you could easily do the same at home with a hand drill. Just put a properly sized bolt and nut through the joint, torque it down, and attach to a speed controllable drill. Spin it at a slow speed until it spins without excessive resistance, adding oil when necessary. Don't let it get too hot.

Never had a problem with my KTS coilovers popping, but then again I broke them in a little..

I was skeptical at first, but I just installed the new bearings. They're working great. I sprayed them with some lithium grease before I installed them, but I doubt that made a big difference.

For the ones that put in new mounts and have no more noise, does the pillowball rotate easily?

The pillowball is suppose to move easily by hand, not loose, but no resistance either.

I've received a 3rd replacement set, but my car is in storage for the winter so I can't test them until April.

I don't think these work though because if I stick a screwdriver in the hole of the mount, it won't mvoe the pillowball, on my old Kei Office coilovers, the top plate would move freely, not like these.

I couldn't get mine to budge at all by hand or screwdriver so I was also skeptical. When I was bolting back on the strut, the pillowball did rotate easier than the previous ones. When I put the car back on the ground and took it for a spin, I heard some clunks right away but I think that was just the springs seating itself. After that, no more clunking.

any chance you could just take the front coils out? my third replacement set seems to be promising so far. just install it on the coil and you should be able to hold the body with one hand and use the other to move the pillowball.

Nah, I can't take them out. I can't jack up the car where it is and I can't move it.

But it should be extremely easily to move the top plate, there should be no pressure needed. Not loose, but very easily movable.

I doubt these new ones are any good.

Oh, yeah.. shoulda been clearer.
The lube isn't to help the monoball during operation,
You just need it to get the monoball moving during break-in,
and cool it off as you break it in.

Don't leave the lube on there when you run it,
it just grabs and holds dirt that messes up the bearing.
