LCD VS. Projection TV
My TV took a shit this weekend so I went shopping for a new one. I picked these two. I dunno what would be better in the long run. Had my last one for 7 years.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1184369372565 http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ....do?oid=190632 I thought the LCD would be smaller but: -LCD is 51" wide and the Projection is 54" wide -LCD 91lbs, projection 94lbs -With the base the LCD is 18" deep the Projection is 16". If I get the wall mount the LCD is 7" off the wall. But that's $300. People say that LCD is better than Projection but $1000 is a big diff. I will not consider plasma. Don't bother.

looks like the projection has 120hz refresh, which, if you've seen normal and 120 side-by-side, makes a HUGE difference. i'd buy the projection on that alone. 120hz makes a normal television look like it's stop motion animation. everything looks like rudolph.
my next tv is going to be a DLP. much more bang for the buck. fuck hanging your shit on a wall.

Yeah....have fun with your rainbow effect on the DLP....lol (only some people can see it though, and it sucks that I'm one of them ><)
120hz sucks. It does this weird 'halo' crap around the fast moving objects. Looks too glitchy to me. Too bad you won't consider plasma AJ. It's much better than those. ![]()

plasma has been confirmed dead as of this month BTW
Not a huge fan of the A3k or the w3k line up... I would say Sony's XBR4, and just disable the 120hz... that tech is just not there yet in my opinion... its a hit and miss depending on what your watching. if you want the BEST color and gray/black scale for a LCD tv... I would go for a Samsung's 81F or even the 71F... 81F has the LED back lighting, but extremely expensive since its one of the first in the market that has this. 71F is the same as the 81F minus the LED back lighting. These models I speak of you probably do not see at Best buy or circuit city... find like an ultimate electronics or some other high end electronics store... they will most likely have one for you to do a comparison. DLP/Rear projection.. idk if you have an entertainment cabinet that you want to keep then I can see why you would look into one. Side Note: If you want cheap, thin thin (like an inch), 1080p, go with the Sharp D64's. If you read some of the "expert" reviews they may complain of uneven lines aka banding... but most of the recent ones out *aka new revision* most people have not seen any of this issue. 2500 for a 52" sounds like a pretty cheap price for one... even the 46" model one (considered the bare minimum size to be able to enjoy 1080p) can be found for sale as cheap as 1700! (@newegg) Compared to some of the others for sale by sony and samsung from around 3k and beyond... fairly respectable price.... ... especially when sony has worked out an agreement to use sharp's manufacturing facility to help with their own production....(why? sharp has build at the moment the worlds largest LCD manufacturing plant)

The sales of plasma has only grown. And the technology places it as a better display than an LCD overall. The only main drawback is the reflective screen. They have the capability to produce far more shades of colors than an LCD and they don't have problems with ghosting and blur.

refresh rates are messed up in the television world, when used on computers ohh you love having a larger hz, easier on the eyes. response time used to be an issue when LCD's first came out, but now that is no longer an issue since most of them are at near perfect. if you say contrast ratio's are pure bs.... then how come that pioneer plasma you ![]() yeah, DLP's hurt people eye's. when I said plasma was dead, I ment it, pioneer just stated they are looking to reduce their production of plasma's and start to focus more on their LCD production line up.

If you're using a HDTV for standard definition tv, then by nature it will be of less quality. SDTV comes in at 480i which is 480 lines of pixels measured vertically. The 'i' means it's interlaced, so at any given frame, only the odd or even lines are being refreshed. This leads to image artifacting or like when a baseball moves and you percieve something like a ghosting image, which is there because the last set of lines refreshed a frame earlier and don't match up.
480p is what Progressive scan DVD's are played in. They scan the entire image every frame and don't suffer from the effects of interlaced images. So then you get 1080i, 720p, and 1080p. HDTV's have a 'native' resolution. Meaning, if you buy a TV that is a 720p set, then you will always be watching a 720p picture. The TV will take whatever signal is coming in and run it through a scaler if it's not the correct amount of lines, and a de-interlacer for interlaced signals. The reason you would want something like a upscalling dvd player is because the scalers in the players are usually of better quality than the ones found in TV's. When the signal is of a lower resolution and it goes through a scaler it 'adds' extra lines of video. Basically it breaks down the image and fills in the gaps. So then with most any HDTV you're going to get a fuzzy picture. It's like putting a magnifying glass over your SDTV.

Bull fucking shit.
If everything was perfect and people didn't skew their numbers then they would be great numbers to go by. But the fact is that advertising has ran with it and the general public doesn't know any better.

There aren't many TV's that come with the correct settings out of the box. Like Sony LCD's usualy have a white that has more blue in it. Calibrations are great for any TV but most people don't justify the cost for them. Ghosting is mentioned on tv's. The Samsung 81 series has reviews about it. A lot of people get set on one type of television and won't want to even consider another type. It really depends on your situation. Some people can't shut blinds because they have huge skylights or big window that can't be covered easily.

XBR4 really isn't worth the price IMO. I would get the w3000. Sharps are good for the price too.

![]() The a3k will be dimmer the further off from the center you view while the LCD won't be. But, both at their best, I like the a3000 more. It's immaculate with something like a PS3 plugged in.

I didn't read through the thread but I've got a 64 inch DLP tv(Mitsubishi). It was almost half the price of a plasma the same size and about 1500 less than the LCD. The projected life span of the unit is longer(don't remember the exact number) than an LCD or plasma. It isn't as heavy as an LCD and has smaller outside dimensions. It doesn't have the darkest blacks but that is ok for my use. If I had the money to spend again I would make the same purchase for sure.
