most clutches take the same process
you have to mate the surfaces so 1.) no hard launches or hard shifts or it will glaze 2.) shift alot for about 300 miles that is all just think lsd break in, i.e. no load clutch slipping

i would guess that same as any other clutch.
350-400 city driving miles. as much stop and go traffic as possible. don't get on it.... or beat on it... just drive. BTW- your car gives me a boner... i love it.. perfect S14

it is always better to break in a clutch in any way. But for our track cars that only see competition. We throw them in, use em, and use em well.
Just like what they were made for. Granted a proper street break in would help them last longer. I ask why a race clutch deserves a street break in.

If this is a street car and you want the clutch to last a while, don't shift at high rpm's for 500 miles, that's pretty much the norm for any new clutch.
But it's not like you have to do it in one day haha. |

If i wanted a clutch that would work in my 800 hp daily driver, and have it able to please grandma, then i would just adapt a ls7 clutch setup.

Yeah I mean you don't have to break in the ORC if you don't want to, high performance clutches are designed for being abused so it'll be fine, I was referring more to the lower end oem replacement and Exedy Stage II type clutches.
But personally I would still break it in, because I'd rather drive my car than work on it and even if it only gives me a slight chance of having it last just a little longer that's a good thing to me, but that's just me. |

I always understood it to be 500-700 miles,
I drove my Spec stage 3 from Oceanside to San diego in traffic back and forth 3 time sto break it in..then drove for about a week withought launching and high revs!

yea i was worried that if the break in wasnt correct then it would really effect the life of the clutch in the long run.
thanks for all the info.. -stop and go -drive in heavy traffic -no hard launch cool

my last 2 clutches i have bought have been from a company called illegal garage out of cali, max he mostly does ae86 parts, but he sells a custom built clutch for the ae86, sr20 and others, and its built by superior clutch.
0 mile break in, go give it hell on the track, street ect. after having one in my ae86 for a good 5000k miles, i swapped motors, and im still using the clutch on the new motor looks brand new still. awesome clutches |
