case in point. my red hatch. kid wanted 2k firm, i took a look and pointed out a bunch of things wrong. offered $1.3k and was firm.....he took it. 2nd case. my clean ass coupe, kid wanted $3.5k i also pointed out many things wrong with it and asked question. offered $1.9k.....he took it. really it just is how bad you want it. looking back i wish i would have saved my money and bought a 350z lol. alas....im a 240 addict. oh well edit. oh and as for the white hatch. youd be stupid to buy a "clean" car for that much from a forum member. (sarcasm alert!)as they obviously do not know what they have nor have ever had the temptation to beat on that car.

the most i would pay is 2500 but thats just me.
i guess other people would pay more cause there including the 240sx tax and the jdm tax so i can see how it would cost 4000 haha |

4k? NO WAY
For comparison I paid 3k for mine 90k on the motor all original with spotless interior(exception of cracked dash), privacy cover, original wheel chocks! Also I'm the second owner.... ![]() ![]() ![]() It's up to you though if you feel that car is worth 4k to you go ahead and splurge but personally I wouldn't spend no more than about 2.5k to 3k.

keep looking, you can get a stock 240sx and make it look like that for less, so why buy someone else for more?
i sold my 240sx for $4000 but it came with 5 lug conversion, hks hi power exhuast, version select kit, tanabe sevens, nrg quick release, nardi deep corn steering wheel, clean interior, kouki turn signals and with 85xxx original mile. ![]()

240 prices vary by a huge percentage based on geography... a clean body (legitimately) rust free s13 would fetch big money here in the north east.. guys in canada talk about that too...
it seems like socal has no shortage of (mostly) rust free and clean cars... find some cars comparable to the purple one in your area and build up your own appraisal. asking some broke tyte drifter on zilvia for their opinion is silly.. like the "i wont pay over a grand" fool in the northeast craigslist is full of 240s going for between 1500-2500.. theyre all crap though (including mine ![]() off topic but PLEASE do a write up tutorial on how to do that.. and how many 240s/year do you flip? how many 240s/year does it take to be above the poverty line? this sounds worse than those vague commercials on how to sell un-named products online from home.. like the one where the guy in front of the shitty crossfire goes "... oh and the money's great too..."

I make next to nothing, honestly very very little, just enough to pay my bills and save a bit. The way the economy is at the moment makes it very hard to be self employed in the car business. I flip anything rear wheel drive and Japanese haha not just 240's, along with the occasional Honda. I look for broken but stock 240's, motivated sellers, and especially cars that really only need to be cleaned. Look at your profit margin. Add cost of car+parts, then subtract that from how much you KNOW you can sell it for, NOT how much you think you can sell it for. Then look at how much you need per week to stay in business. Thats how I started. Know what you can fix and what you can't. For example, bought an 89 in great condition, just needed a head gasket and some wiring sorted out. Payed $500, fixed the gasket, did a basic tuneup, and turned around and sold the car for $1800. #1 Buy cars you know you can sell. #2 Buy cars you know you can fix, not ones you think you can fix. #3 Learn how to sell. Buying is easy, making a sale is much harder. #4 Never get emotionally involved with a car, this isn't YOUR 240, this is the new buyers, fix it, clean it, and sell it accordingly. #5 Last but not least, be honest. There are too few honest people selling cars. You may ask why I do it? It's a lot of work, I don't make a lot of money, and to be honest it's difficult to be motivated, I am my own boss. I love it. Working on cars, buying and selling, and being involved in something I love to do make it worth it to me. Hope this helps even a little. |

Truth be told, it takes a certain ability. Being able to spot stuff about cars others miss, being able to take care of repairs. Like the above said knowing the cars your dealing with. It is a skill that A: needs to be learned and B: is part natural talent in my opinion. To many people see the people doing it and think they can too. Its just not that simple. Its like the infomercials for flipping houses. Not everyone can get into buying and selling houses and be successful at it. Not everyone can get into buying and flipping cars and be successful at it. Oh and if they are doing a infomercial on it? Thats because they can make even more money selling you the info on how to do it than they can even make doing it. Hence why the do the infomercial. Honestly they know most the people buying the videotape or CD on how to do it won't succeed. Though they also know millions of people will buy it. Regardless of if the people can actually really be successful at it. Its like the real estate boom here in socal that went on before the whole loan debacle. You had everybody and their brother trying to be Realtor's because they saw people making money and wanted to learn. Though again it takes real talent to be a successful Real Estate agent. Its not something everyone can do. Sorry but this is the truth. Oh and I do agree asking people on Zilvia what a 240 is worth is asking for a biased answer. They are going to tell you its overpriced and they got theirs for cheap because they want everyone to sell them for cheap. Or they are cheap and don't want to or won't pay much to begin with. Hate me for that? Its the truth. LOL

The price all depends on the car, your question is really un-answerable. $4000 for your run of the mill stockish s-13 is stupidly overpriced. On the other hand though $4000 for a cherry, original, old ass lady owned, garaged, 5-speed car with SUPER low miles and sparkling perfect paint may be worth it. I have seen one car like that. It was even an '89, but after looking at it for a bit I said to myself "hell, I would pay $5000 for a car that cherry if I could afford it". Like I said it all depends on the specific car you are buying.
