God I was first inline for starcraft one.. even got the limited edition protoss shirt with it.. Maybe it's just me but the graphics are better but the setup is the same. A couple of new units are nice but it's still the same thing.. alot of the strategies remain almost the same.. as to PC gaming dieing.. well that has to deal with the evolution of hardware.. nothing more... see a console is a fixed platform so "good graphics" are well pretty much everyone is on the same playing field.. as a game developer for a PC you must hit a moving target... Graphics cards get a speed bump every 2-3 months.. PC's the same and you must build a game to take advantage of the idiot who spent 4k SLI'ing 4 nvidia cards and has 20 gigs of ram and the latest intel chip overclocked into oblivion.. vs the guy who just bought an emachine for $399 at costco because it was a great deal and said "great for games" on the sticker in the front.. your game must play on both those machines.. that's a tall order.. not only that but it needs to play under xp, vista, windows 7, and mac os... that's alot of QA... especially with the service packs etc.

finally got to install it and played a few games last night. i opted for the practice run (you get 50 games of practice before you are ranked) to learn the game. dam i'm a noob again playing with other noobs in practice mode. i have no beta experience.
i was zerg yesterday with 6 expansions playing against a protoss with 2 bases who made probably 3-4 dark templers. i couldn't for the life of me find out how to detect cloaked units. he raped all my hydras, zerglings, and roaches then proceeded to kill my main with all my tech buildings until i got a lair in one of my expo and found out you had to transform overlords to overseers, but by then i was done and only had a spawning pool against his carriers. another game, i was playing a 2v2 against 2 terrans who turtled in their base. they probably got 1 expansion each, and i mined the entire map while my allie did shit. we had no idea how to get into their base losing wave after wave of ultras, thors, marines, mutas because they had siege tanks and missile turrets everywhere until i found out how to make the siege flying unit for zerg. they don't even transform from mutas anymore.. |

You can use the the zerg overlords to detect cloaked units. There are zerg buildings that detect cloaked, but I don't remember... I just play UMS and the campaign.
Go help menu at the top and look at the zerg tree. |

overlords -> Overseer with layer to detect, not just overlords like in SC1.
DT's + Void Prism in the mineral line is so win. That or stalkers fast with observer, blink onto the mineral line and own shit up. Speedlings, run past their defenses straight to minerals, win like 60%. Hella fun game, I play like 4 hours a day haha. |

damn, my friend says i am pretty decent. I still have 3 more placement matches and he says i'll probably rank to gold (1v1).

Best way to win so far and what I've witnessed is:
Protoss Make 4 warp gates Stalker army Win (usually) It isn't an I Win, but it's very hard to defend against. And even if you do hold 'em off, you're pretty damaged. haven't seen anything like that yet for Zerg or Terran.

^yup the korean 4-gate. not only stalkers, you can mass zealots as your first wave and then get stalkers.
daftphunk, what race do you play? I am sticking to protoss, and we can game if you like. my friend and I always play ai to get down our BO (build orders). I want to start playing ladder but my friend don't want to since I always lag out.

Speedlings > stalkers and if you build like a noob they can finish your base no problem. 4 gate is a good build because it gives you flexability and with good scouting you can counter their push and win easy.

Patch update this Tuesday.
Nerfing 4 gate, zealots, reapers, siege tanks, ultralisk, battlecruisers. Balance Changes We have several balance changes in store. One general change we're making is that friendly units will no longer provide vision after being killed. Enemy units previously revealed will no longer be targetable. Now let's break down the additional balance changes we're implementing. Maps We're going to be adding destructible rocks to the Desert Oasis map to make natural expansions easier to protect. In addition, the center map watchtower area is being narrowed. Protoss We have two key changes in mind for the zealot: the build time is being increased from 33 to 38 seconds, and the warpgate cooldown is being increased from 23 to 28 seconds. Zealot rushes are currently too powerful at various skill levels, particularly those that rely on rapidly assaulting an enemy base from nearby "proxy" gateways. We feel the window players have to scout for and fend off this rush is too small. We also want to address the problem of protoss being able to dump minerals a bit too quickly with the combination of warpgates and Chrono Boost. Terran There are several changes in the works for terrans. Reapers against zerg are stronger than expected. Due to the zealot build time increase, reapers would be a bit problematic in combination with proxy barracks, bunkers, and/or marauders against protoss. Therefore, we have decided to increase the build time of reapers as well from 40 to 45 seconds. Fast reaper + bunker, or fast marine + bunker rushes are problematic against zerg. Although this rush would never outright destroy the zerg player, we feel zerg suffers too much of a disadvantage from either having to cancel the fast expansion, or getting trapped inside the main base for too long, so we are also increasing the bunker build time from 30 to 35 seconds. Siege tanks in large numbers are performing too well in all matchups. In the mid- to late-game, siege tanks are too dominant against all ground units. We want a small set of light and unarmored ground units to perform better against siege tanks. With this in mind, we're changing the Siege Mode damage of the siege tank from 50 to 35, +15 vs. armored; to correspond with this, damage upgrades will be changed from +5 to +3, +2 vs. armored. This change reduces the base damage of the siege tank against light and unarmored units, as well as the splash damage. Battlecruisers currently lack good counters from the ground and still perform very well against a wide array of unit types. We're aware that it is not easy to get battlecruisers out for the cost, but at the same time, it is possible in both 1v1s and team games to create stalemate situations to bring them out. Overall, we feel that battlecruisers are too strong for their cost, and the terran-forced stalemate situations are causing less interesting gameplay. We will be lowering their damage against ground units from 10 to 8. Zerg Ultralisk damage is being decreased from 15, +25 vs. armored to 15, +20 vs. armored. This reduction is comparable to the changes being made to the battlecruiser and siege tank. Like the battlecruiser, ultralisks are simply too powerful for the cost, even though they are difficult to muster. Also, in combination with other units, ultralisks are difficult to counter from the ground. The ultralisk building attack (Ram) is being removed because the damage rate is too similar to its normal attack, which will be used against buildings instead. When ultralisks target tightly packed smaller buildings such as supply depots, the Ram attack is actually outputting considerably less overall damage than its normal attack, as Ram only hits a single target.

So down for the siege tank changes. That's a HUGE nerf. The zealot change makes sense. I'm not sure I aggree about the Battleship and Ultra changes, but its kinda inconsequential seeing as they don't get a TON of play. Reapers, nuff said haha. Hella cheese.

I'm learning to play Terran haha. Figured I'd start there first.
I have a 15'' MBP, the new one, and I run SC2 on max settings fine. Also, I play LoL as well since DotA died. HoN was cool for awhile but I don't wanna pay $30 to play that game. It get's old. DotA is classic though and I wish I could play more but I don't know where anybody plays anymore. |

He always review his replays to see where he messed up and how he can be better.
