White, bronze/gold, black.
White with body color accents would be cleanest Black with same would be most aggressive. Bronze/gold would be sportiest. And hardest to pull off I think. All IMO of course.

you mean the blue ones? their different. the 1st is vibrant blue pearl from the 2005-2006 model. the second, thats mine, is arctic blue pearl from 2002-2004. vbp is more bright neon. abp is a mellow metallic blue

Just widebodied my ap1. Trying to figure out what yellow I want to go with. Maybe oem spa or ap2 rio yellow with some extra pearl...Suggestions are encouraged. Either a yellow or something that would go with a yellow engine bay and black w yellow stitching interior.
I think this color is Giallo Modena? ![]() ![]() Don't know what color this is but it's pretty awesome ![]()

First Ever Paint Job
Just finished up my first ever paint job. It looks like a first timer job up close on the large panels. Type X bits, mirrors, all small parts look good/great, but the hood and body aren't perfect by any means. I mixed my own custom color from HOK shimrin bases at 6am this morning. Love the color completely but this was a definite learning experience to say the least. But from start to finish its all me by myself in my garage. Metallic/Kandy/Pearl for a first timer was a serious FAST learning curve. Walking the body length to get the metallic to lay correctly was very hard and I though I was doing it right but still got mottling, tiger strips, runs. Next time in going to get a slow reducer for the base coat instead of medium and make sure I make sure to shake the gun up while painting to prevent any settling in the cup. The slow reducer for the clear (SPI recommendation) really really helped out for a first timer. And im going to use the 1.5 tip for base instead of 1.3. Overall this took 4 days from start to finish painting primer Friday and BC/CC today. More time spent cleaning and re-masking Saturday and Sunday.
And I'm gonna rock it out flaws and ALL can't be ashamed of something I put time and effort in! My wife already said " ![]() For reference (mixed/reduced): SPI Epoxy & Adhesion Promoter/Med Hardener (2 quarts) Eastwood 2K High Build/Med Hardener (1 Gallon) HOK Shimrin Base FBC/KBC Custom Color/Med Reducer (6 quarts, 1 leftover) SPI Universal Clear/Slow Hardener (1 Gallon) 60 Gallon Kobalt Compressor Devilbiss FL3 with Dekups (1.3 and 1.5) Shit gun for the epoxy primer |

cool a fellow finish line gun owner. got mine from another forum member-having problems with orange peel-i think i'll try the 1.5 tip so far i've been using the 1.3 on my test panels. how do you like the dekups system? was watching the demo video and it def. looks like a better option than the traditional paint cup.
after seeing this pic (even if it's a honda) i'm considering going the flat route lol ![]() |

The dekups system is great but it still can be messy. Since you have to unscrew the main cup from the gun for every refill you have to make sure all the paint left in the gun runs back into the cup when its upside down or it spills everywhere. But for clean up its awesome just throw out the disposable and wipe down the permanent cup/lid and thats it. I didnt realize how friggin expensive the replacement refills are....I need redo two parts and ran out of refils and only need 2 and its like 40 bucks for refills. So I'm just going to get another starter kit for 20 bucks and thats more then enough to paint an entire car.
The FL3 was a good gun for me. It does have a MAJOR amount of overspray if not adjusted correctly. But It layed everything down smooth. I do have some peel (the least of my problems) but its from me and not the gun. |
