Grey-market cars are purchased illegally, period, unless it's been certified and put through the proper EPA conversion process. YES they can seize and crush your car if you attract enough attention. Good luck making an insurance claim in an accident without the police questioning the vehicle and likely making a call to homeland security. To quote this Jalopnik article:
