And that would be over $32,000 in 2009 dollars. The 240 was not a cheap car. My '89 was purchased new for $18k out the door, which again would be $31k today.

Yep, and for that price you can get w Z. I don't want a Z though. I want something that is smaller, less HP, and less money. If Nissan can build/sell a Z for the price of what they sold a 240 for 12 years ago they can certainly build/sell the type of car I'm looking for.

Nissan should NOT give ppl false hope with all their smoke & mirrors about coming up with new 240sx, when they've not followed-up (if ever).
Also totally understandable that you'd like to stay within a very reasonable budget.
It's no wonder ppl feel let down.

On the other hand, there are a lot of those who complain for the sake of complaining.
"Oh, it's too heavy",
"Oh, it's still a Hyundai/Ford,"
"Oh, the interior looks cheap", etc, etc.
You give them pretty much 99% if what they want,
but still it's not good enough.
It's almost as if the rant is about getting attention from the internet, or personal justification of not wanting to get a new car for whatever reason.
I didn't think it was directed towards me.

And I TOTALLY agree with you on part I bolded in your quote. Actually you and I seem to be on the same page.

Let me make it more worthwhile.

Quote:
Toyota is studying how to more closely converge its products with Subaru, and might share its next-generation Highlander midsize crossover platform with the Tribeca. The two have similar dimensions, notes a source familiar with the tie-in.

As always with Subaru, the sticking point is how to share a platform that would use a longitudinally mounted boxer engine, in the case of the Tribeca, with a transverse-mounted engine, as in the Highlander. The platform also will have to accommodate a hybrid version of the Highlander, and it's a good bet the system would be adapted to the pancake-engine Tribeca.

Toyota tackles the problem with the upcoming FT-86 rear-wheel-drive sports coupe by going with a Subaru pancake engine -- the STI's 305-horsepower, 290 pound-foot version of the 2.5-liter turbo four, our source says. Earlier reports had the FT-86 launching with less-powerful Subaru engines. Toyota's development costs have ballooned, however, and the FT-86 is now seen as a mid-$20s car rather than a sub-$20,000 car.

Subaru's version of the 086A, as the project is known, is still scheduled for 2013 model year introduction and will likely be sold with all-wheel drive only, as part of its differentiation from the Toyota.

Subaru is leading development of the 086A, while the converged crossover platform looks to be more of a Toyota project. To accommodate both types of engines, the platform could be the same from the A-pillar back, but would need a different floorpan from the firewall forward. Subaru's flat engines require specific solutions for crash standards.

As for the crossover/utility vehicles, both the Camry-based Toyota Highlander and the slow-selling Subaru Tribeca are due for replacement in the 2014 model year.

mid 20k isnt cheap,
but better that than say compromise their product.
last thing we need is another forgettable fwd touring coupe, like the Xc

then again, mid 20k has strong contenders.
sub 20k, really they would totally dominate that segment

Yeah, it's ugly and expensive. I'd take a 370/G37 over a 1 series any day.

Not to mention the 1 series will rape your pocketbook for anything you need lol. I'd take a 370/G37 if Nissan would take care of some of their minor issues they're having, I loved my 350 but after it broke on me numerous times for the same shit, and several other friends had the same happen, it was time for the lemon. I'd seriously consider the Genesis though even though its underpowered/overweight stock but hey who keeps anything stock on here?

that's why you never want to buy the 1st gen of a brand new model. i got the titan when it first came out in '04 and had all sorts of problems...biggest one being the undersized brake rotors. it's better to wait and let the manufacturer work out the kinks.

well, you do run a higher risk but sometimes its works out ok.
I purchased 08 lancer evo x gsr, first year model (engine similar to that of the Genesis Coupe 2.0t).
The only inconvenience I've had were a few re flashes and a recall or two for small stuff.

Most reliable car I've ever owned (based on the past 3 years, bought new).
Then again the car is more or less stock.

I wanna say Toyota is planning it to be a 2013 model and come out next year or a 2014 and come out in 2013. Not this year though.

100,000 mile warranty...who cares

but in all honesty...i think your guy is a bit of a rare case...i dont hear about that many issues from people on the genesis forums...for the most part, they love their cars and they run really well

someone above mentioned the car being underpowered...the stock 2.0t is as fast as an S13 with a stock SR in the 1/4 mile (mid to low 15 seconds)...but as with ANY modern day sportscar (not just turbo cars anymore, this applies HEAVILY to the 370z and G37), the exhaust system is SUPER restrictive...add a downpipe and catback to the genesis and it helps the car a TON as far as power goes

Well yeah, you can't in all fairness conclude the car sucks because of a few isolated incidents.
Then again, the warranty is only as good as the service offered.
Doesn't mean shit if you have to keep on bringing it back.

Some mods do and some don't. Get in cool with the manager of the dealer and it doesn't. I did mods to my Eclipse back in the day that voided the warranty but I ended up kinda becoming friends with the Service Manager and he'd never have a problem and always hooked me up.

Hyundai is ridiculously strict about warranty, and will do everything in their power NOT to do work under warranty. Everyone I know that has had a Hyundai that needed warranty work as had this problem, including my sister who has a bone stock tuscon.

this is the exact opposite of what all hyundai employees who post on the genesis forums say (including various service writers who take quite a bit of time addressing warranty and technical questions about the genesis). legally if its covered under warranty, it has to be fixed under warranty. also if you add a modification to the car and a problem arrises that has nothing to do with the mod, your warranty cannot be voided.

basically if your AC went out and you have a catback on the car, hyundai cannot legally void your warranty unless they can show exact proof of said modification causing the issue.

Yeah, I know how it's "supposed" to work. Real world experiences tell a different story. Maybe they treat genesis customers differently, or maybe it's just an illinois thing, but everyone I know who owns a Hyundai has to jump through fiery hoops to get warranty work done.

I'm might be buying a Tuscon this year. I'm not worried about it.
